I WILL WALK MY OWN PATH. IT'S NOW OR NEVER. ALEXIUS couldn't help but chuckle at Roxas's predictable reaction to being called 'kid'. But really, that was not an accurate portrayal of this person. As he finally admitted that his description was an actual witness account, rather than a made up story, Alexius started to see more than he expected to see of this kid. He could see it in his eyes. The kind of sorrow that always seemed to creep up into the eyes when in this kind of situation.
It was rare to see. But he knew that it meant that Roxas had seen hard times. It wasn't the first time he saw something like that in someone's eyes. His older sister was the first one who he ever saw that in. However, his mind was not back in those old days. Rather, they were in the current moment. Roxas claimed that nobodies had no place in the light..nor in the darkness. That was why they sought spaces between spaces. They were places to claim as their own.
However, as he listened to Roxas..one thing popped into his mind. A phrase his sister had said repeatedly throughout the time she had taught classes in Balamb. "It is those who are lost that hold the power to find." He said, breaking the silence of their seemingly random traipse through the forest. He didn't explain it. But for him, it was a phrase that seemed to be rather apt for this situation.
For a good while, Alexius remained silent. And then Roxas asked about his home. Specifically, he asked if the volume of monsters in his home were why he left it. That made him chuckle..almost bitterly. "Where I come from, I'm something called a SeeD. A soldier that gets contracted to deal with various problems. The most common problem we're contracted to face is monster hunting and extermination. It keeps the lights on for a lot of people, on top of our salary as soldiers." He said as he stared up at the canopy of the forest.
"And in the school I went to, students also utilize incredibly powerful monsters for assistance. Ones that can take on a form of pure energy, and settle into parts of the mind. But..you still have to defeat them to use their power." He explained, seemingly still avoiding the question of if monsters were why he left. But he was getting to the point.
"I went through the entire SeeD training program. Five years of my life were spent learning how to be a soldier. So no, the monsters weren't why I left. In fact..I didn't have a choice when I left. I..don't even remember the dream I had the night of graduation. I just know that I changed back into the clothes I was wearing now..went to take a nap..and then woke up here." He explained as he sighed. He really did miss his home. It was interesting to have such a new experience..but it was also very easy to miss his family, and the people he cared for. Maybe one day, he'd be able to see them again. MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

As someone raised in a secret cabal of souless warriors, trained to tear souls from their rotten husks in order to open the gate to selenic paradise , Roxas found he both related with what Alexius was describing and felt the eerie alienation of seeing the other side of the coin. Alexius became paramilitary from a young age apparently, went to school for it an everything. They’d both defeated monsters for their power, through this turning creatures into energy slushies and putting them in your mind thing was little beyond Roxas. What he did understand was Alexius was felt this life in his blood and bones, and had been forced for it by circumstances beyond his control.
Wayward thirteen watched the tree trunks passed by looming skyscrapers. Evening’s soft light made the memory of self-exile less painful, like how morning made odd-shaped stones and creaking oaks out of what’d seemed monsters in the dark.
So, why was he helping this guy? He had wanted to lay low. People causing a stir in town with lightning and swords were counterproductive to that. This dude was a trained ghosts-in-his-brain monster hunter, and Roxas wasn’t keen on being exterminated. Pretty simple right?
Roxas glanced up at his companion, brain turning over what’d seemed a throwaway phrase. There came a faint recollection of dashing down citadel steps in a place of high hills and bright skies. Roxas’d run his heart out, but still been too late. He’d been left behind, and suddenly nowhere felt like home anymore.
Those who are lost have the power to find.
The thrice-born boy let the stabbing pain settle down his stomach, slip back down into contextless caliginosity like bile in the throat before trusting himself to speak. They felt like words meant for someone else, a friend, a brother, spoken far too late.
A hand raised to a gap in the forest canopy to point up to where numberless stars hid their faces behind day’s auric veil.
“Want to go back home with me?”

I WILL WALK MY OWN PATH. IT'S NOW OR NEVER. ADMITTEDLY, Alexius didn't really know why he had repeated his sister's favorite phrase. She said it while she taught people who claimed they were 'lost'. She said it to people who had their dreams crash down around them upon failing the SeeD initiation test, and she had even said it to several depressed people to help them through their pain. But it seemed that it struck a cord with his companion.
However, his own thoughts were rather quickly broken as he noticed Roxas point towards a gap in the canopy, revealing a set of stars that somehow shone through this area, even though the whole town was in an eternal state of twilight. However, that wasn't all that he was asked. Without missing a beat, Roxas asked if he wanted to go home with him. Something deep inside of Alexius was screaming at him to run, to find his own way. But..he had been living on the streets for weeks now. Having a place to go..where he could actually clean himself up, and make sure everything of his was taken care of? That was a good idea to him.
"You know..that sounds like a good idea. I've been on the streets for weeks now. It'd be nice to go somewhere and actually be able to take care of my stuff.."
He admitted as he stared up at the stars and sighed, tugging at his shirt and looking over all of the dust and stains on it. "Though..I do need to get this cleaned up at some point before we go.." And that was it. That was the point that made it clear that he understood what Roxas meant.
Some way..somehow, this child was capable of moving between worlds. The way he spoke, and the way he acted made it clear. Alexius was ready to try and find where his home fit into the grand scheme of things. But he wanted to be prepared before they started leaving. He had already been sent to one world without preparation. He didn't want that to occur a second time. MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

Roxas nodded slowly, an odd finality in the gesture. “Alright then,”the simple phrase carried a solemnity that didn’t belong in that light tenor or youth countenance. The Key of Destiny knew more then his fair share about partings, of the irrevocable nature of crossroads and ephemeral ’might’ve beens.’ That Alexius didn’t wanna just jump into the maelstrom showed he was smarter Roxas’d ever been. Good, upped their chances some.
“Way we’re goin’ is dangerous,” Roxas cautioned as their paced slowed on the road. He raised a hand slightly to stay possible protestation. “Even for a soldier,” the younger boy clarified, hint of playful jocularity returning back into seriousness with the words that followed. “The ways Between will try an’ drag us into the Darkness.” He stopped on the path, glancing up at a faint hint of a extravagant yet dilapidated structure peeking through the tree-line like some woodland leshy.
Sometimes you hate a place so much that your feet can’t stop leading you back there. It was like scratching at a scar, the perverse comfort the Heart finds in familiarity, savoring even pain above the terror of change. Life seemed a circle sometimes, a merciless orbit set around an axis you were never quite strong enough to shift.
“I’ve got some prep to to do.” Roxas said, firmly marshaling his attention back to Alexius. “Probably your last day here,” the Nobody gave the pinprick memory of fast fleeting days a wide inner berth, “Get done what’cha need and meet me here?”

I WILL WALK MY OWN PATH. IT'S NOW OR NEVER. IT was rather strange. Most people in Alexius's situation would have been dying to stay here, rather than have to go back and throw themselves into a whole new confusing adventure. But Alexius had always been someone who couldn't stay still. It had been torture for him to be stuck in a normal environment for the years that he had been as a child. So being stuck back in this almost purgatory of complete normalcy?
It was taxing on Alexius. He had all of these skills, but no reason to use them. Maybe that was why he was willing to listen so intently to what Roxas had to say, without even attempting to interrupt him. Still, he had to rub the back of his neck and chuckle softly when he was told to merely meet him back here. "Well..that's the thing..for the past few months, I've been living in the underground concourse..I don't exactly have a house to live in around here.." He admitted as he followed Roxas.
"Really, if I'm going to prepare, I'll need to be able to take a quick shower and get changed into the other set of clothes I have." He explained as he lightly shifted his right arm..causing a bag to drop from underneath the serape-like shoulder covering that he was wearing. "So with that in mind..all I really need is to take a shower. So..I guess I'll just come with you." He said as the bag slipped down his arm, eventually getting caught at the ends of his curled fingers.
"So, with that in mind..feel free to lead the way." MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

Roxas took the mixed signaling in stride. Whatever, they could stop at a oceanic world or something on the way. As for his own preparations, Roxas figured this guy was half a foot too large for his black coat anyway. Admittedly he was unsure if it mattered, but Roxas reasoned as long as they made this quick, Alexius shouldn’t be exposed too much to the corrupting whispers between worlds. If his Heart turned out to not be strong enough…eh well, Roxas would have to improvise.
“Everythin’ you see is made of smaller pieces,” Roxas began, setting his feet firmly in a bracing stance, “most too small to see.” While no doubt Vexen and Saix would’ve despaired at atomic theory being summarized with such parsimony, but it was serviceable enough. “The Light holds those pierces together, givin’ it all shape.” The explanation was partially for Alexius’ benefit, but also honestly was just something to fill the silence with as Roxas mentally reached out into matter’s perforated voids. He closed his eyes, evening light dimly piercing through his eyelids in crimson dimness like the sun filtering through oceanic depths. “But in the spaces between all that is Darkness.”
Roxas reached up into the empty air, fingers closing over nothing in the manner one might grasp at something slippery. The muscles in his arms went taut with the strain of sustained pressure, as if pantomiming trying to rip something in half. It was a moment before a heat-mirage distortion rippled through the air between the boy’s whitened knuckles, space-time buckling before a fierce will. When the give came momentally, the three dimensional fabric of the air seemed wounded, severed by a annular ebony gash that bled out vast numbing cold.
The Nobody opened his eyes again, examine his handiwork. Without hesitation he stepped into the vaporous fracture. Alexius received a backward look, a pause for assent before pumping the great abyss.
“Still coming?”

I WILL WALK MY OWN PATH. IT'S NOW OR NEVER. OF all the things that Alexius had ever heard in his life, what Roxas was saying right now sounded more strange than anything. Not because of the fact that he was talking about Atomic Theory. No, that was something that was common knowledge in Archipelago. Atoms and whatnot. He'd learned that in the non-combat oriented classes he had attended back in Balamb. No..what was strange was the variation of it that he was talking about.
For this variant of it, light seemed to be acting like the bonds between atoms. And darkness was..everything between them? That was..odd. Still, Alexius watched. Roxas seemed to be doing something that was going to have a direct impact on..something. What it was, he didn't know. He could only see so much from where he was standing.
But whatever Roxas was doing, it looked like it took a considerable amount of strength. He could see how the muscles in his shoulder were tensing up and remaining rather taut, after all. However..as a heat mirage started to ripple around Roxas, a familiar feeling crept into his heart. Fear. The very thing he had to quash down as a SeeD. Whatever he was creating..it filled Alexius with a sense of dread, solely because he didn't know what was going on.
However, when Roxas ripped a hole open in the air that bled darkness, Alexius was reminded of a type of magic some monsters had. And when he realized that this was something he could very easily survive? The fear was gone. While he could feel the icy cold that was bleeding out from it, it wasn't so much that his clothing wasn't going to keep him warm.
Of course, while he had spent so much time staring, Roxas had managed to take a step forward, and even asked him if he was still coming. It only took a few seconds of mental deliberation. During that few seconds, his expression was blank..and then shifted into a grin.
"Oh come on kid. I told you I'd come. A little bit of nighttime isn't gonna scare me off."He said before following Roxas into the corridor, leaving this Twilit world behind for some larger, grander adventure.
