Warrior of Light
Warrior of Light
He has no true family, but the other warriors of light are precious to him
Stoic and dutiful would be the best words to describe that of Zest. As a man that had started off with nothing to recall he is an empty man that says little due to ignorance of the world. When he is tasked with something he places all his being into preforming such a task as it is something that gives his being meaning. When it comes to it, his determination to see a task to its end is strong and so long as he can place his trust in those that he fights alongside with, his determination and trust is unwavering. So long as there is a smidge of hope left he will fight, but he knows when he cannot win. He has a tactical mind that seeks the best end and should he need to dishonor his own name to seize victory for his allies then he would do so without regret.
His service under Cosmos made him a man that values justice and light. Though he lost his memories this still was embedded in his heart. He is a protective and selfless individual who will do whatever it takes to make sure his allies are safe and the task is complete, but he is serious to a fault as well and can be too focused to as task at some time. Some can say that he truly does not care much about what is going on, but it’s just that he has trouble expressing himself. It is not that he denies feelings, but it is something that he struggles to figure out. After his time with his allies and the warriors of light, Zest has lightened up a bit. He hold a great trust in the skills of his allies, but sometimes takes the role of mentor in order to better his allies for the battle.
Cid of Lufanie
To understand the origin of the nameless warrior one must go back years ago, back to the land of Onrac. At a time of war a portal to the Interdimensional Rift appeared before the nation and a breakthrough of science occurred. What they found in the rift was a strange organic crystalized ore that they knew could lead to a great advancement in weapon development. Onrac tried to use this new material to create soldiers of war, but they could only create mindless crystalized beings that took the appearance of those that researched them. Onrac named these failed warriors Manikins.
With nowhere else to turn to, Onrac decided to turn to the land of Lufenia, who had no choice but to listen to the nation’s needs. In response to their demands, Lufenia sent their most famed scientist, a man named Cid who was known for the creation of Airships and the knowledge to perform the memory transferal ritual.
Upon request, Cid transferred the memories of 10 Lufenian individuals into a manikin. Unlike the previous manikins that were created by Onrac, this one did not take a crystalized appearance and even had its own sense of will. This new manikin was deemed a success and was considered a perfect manikin. Though a success, the perfect manikin had monstrous traits and had the mind of a helpless child. Realizing that his creation was nothing more than a boy, Cid took the child in and together with his wife they raised the child like he was their own flesh and blood. They poured all their love into the child and the child returned the love with his own.
It wasn’t until the child had reached a mature age that the Onrac military had decided to claim the child as their weapon. Onrac snatched the boy away and attempted to use the boy in war, but was unable to when he refused to fight. In fear that they would execute the child, Cid’s wife decided to cooperate with the military and convince the child to fight. With the child’s strength, Onrac was able to defeat the summoned creatures and seal Omega away.
After witnessing the horrific destruction caused by the boy Cid’s wife refused to assist Onrac again. Taking this as a sign of treason, Cid and his wife were immediately tossed into prison. While the two were imprisoned, Onrac used Cid’s research and found a way to control the child without the foster mother. Using the memories of the child’s foster mother, they created their own perfect manikin of Cid’s wife, one that would calm the child down and convince him to fight. Onrac named this manikin Cosmos due to the fact that her harmony was able to restrain the child’s discord.
While the Onrac military continued to use the child, Cid and his wife managed to break out of prison and break into the lab holding both the child and Cosmos. The once innocent child they loved and raised was now a broken minded boy that was filled with hatred and scarred from war and experimentation. With little time the group attempted to flee the area, but before they could even do that the Onrac military intervened and shot Cid’s wife.
Upon watching his foster mother get shot, the boy immediately let out powerful cry that opened up a portal to the Interdimensional Rift. The portal immediately sucked up all those in the area except for the wounded Cid’s wife. Those that were sucked into the rift were immediately sent into a parallel world. Cid decided to call this new place World B while their original world would be called World A.
Cid desperately began to search for a way back to his home world and as he searched he soon came across a fallen knight named Garland, who was able to calm the child down and bond with the boy. As Garland tended to the boy, Cid continued his investigation for a way back home. His search eventually led him to a powerful dragon named Shinryu and a solution was made between the two that benefited both parties. This solution involved a war in which the forces of harmony, led by Cosmos, would face off against the forces of discord, who would be led by the child. The two sides would summon pawns from different worlds and have them fight against each other.
Shinryu’s part in the war involved reviving the fallen warriors after each war and restarting the war each time. This benefited Shinryu since he would be able to absorb both the memories and strength of the fallen warriors. Cid’s main goal was to be able to strengthen the child so that he could be strong enough to open a portal back home. With each war the child would grow stronger and stronger. Cid also made a deal with Shinryu in which he would give up his body and become an intangible soul that could observe the war.
With the concept of the war established, Cid and Shinryu began preparations to start the war, but were unable to really start it due to the child’s reluctance to fight his mother’s manikin. When Cid noticed Garland’s bond with the boy he immediately attempted to convince Garland to have the child face off against Cosmos. With Garland’s help, the child was finally convinced into fighting against Cosmos and with this Garland gave the boy the name Chaos. This was the start of the war between harmony and discord.
Without a body Cid observed the battle, but also worked on a side project as well. Cid’s goal was to make a perfect manikin using his own memories. After countless failures, Cid eventually managed to succeed. Though the manikin had no sense of will, it was a success due to the fact that it did not crystalize. After deciding to observe the new manikin, Cid sent the manikin into the war and decided to witness any changes in the manikin. This manikin would later be known as the Warrior of Light.
The empty manikin found himself deep within the Chaos Shrine during the first cycle of the war. When the warrior of Cosmos named Prishe was exploring the area she immediately encountered the warrior/manikin. Curious about the warrior and the fact that he held no alliance to either Chaos or Cosmos, Prishe decided to take the empty warrior with her. Unfortunately Garland realized just what the warrior was and would not let Prishe take the warrior so easily. The two battled, but in the end Prishe was able to claim the warrior and take him to Cosmos. After some convincing from Prishe and Shantoto, along with the realization of just what the warrior was, Cosmos imbedded her power into the warrior and transferred him to the side of Harmoney. With his empty life now having been given purpose, the warrior swore that he would serve Cosmos with all his strength. This was the true start of the Warrior of Light, had Garland succeeded in claiming the warrior, then he would have joined the side of Chaos instead.
Along with Prishe, the two warriors of Cosmos headed off on their quest to defeat the forces of discord. Due to his lack of memories and proof of existence, the Warrior of Light felt that merely fighting would prove his existence. When Prishe hears of this she immediately denies this claim and tells him that memories are not needed to prove a person’s existence and that it’s the person’s feelings that prove their existence. With this Prishe took it upon herself to think up a name for the warrior. This single memory became the most precious of all memories for the warrior, one that he wished never to forget.
Unfortunately in the end the forces of Cosmos lost the war and because of the rules of the war, the warriors were revived without their memories and set to fight once again. For eleven straight wars the forces of Cosmos suffered loss after loss and went through the cycle of life and death, gaining new allies and losing some in the process. Despite the numerous revivals, the Warrior of Light still held his most precious memory in his heart and refused to be named another name until he recalled the name that was given to him.
With the start of the twelfth war Cosmos decided to gift her chosen warriors with her power in the form of a crystal that will manifest upon facing enough battle. Though the warriors attempt to obtain their crystals, the warriors soon find themselves out numbers. By the powers of the Chaos warrior named Exdeath, the warriors of Chaos gained access to the rift and were able to control the failed manikins that were banished into the rift by Onrac.
With the situation becoming grim, Kain, a fellow Cosmos warrior revealed to the Warrior of Light that the war was nothing but a cycle in which the losers would be revived and forced to fight again. The warrior was shocked to hear this, but trusted his allies’ words. Since it was apparent that they would not be able to gain the crystals in time the duo came up with a new plan. This plan involved forfeiting the current war so that they would be able to gain the crystals in the next war. By doing this they would all gain Cosmos’ strength and be able to end the war for good. With the plan set in action, Kain began taking out each of the warriors of Cosmos one by one.
When Lightning witnessed Kain take out Bartz and decided to confront Cosmos about it, the Warrior of Light immediately attempted to take out Lighting. His attempt to take out Lightning however was eventually halted by Cosmos. By the request of Cosmos, the Warrior of Light begins to explain his plan to Lightning and the other warriors of harmony that survived. With this revelation, Laguna soon recalled the fact that knew where the manikins were coming from. With this knowledge, Lightning, Vaan, Yuna, Laguna, Tifa and eventually Kain all set off to destroy the source of the manikins.
Though the group of Cosmos warriors eventually fell to the manikins, they still managed to successfully close the portal to the rift and stop the flow of manikins. With the end arriving, the Warrior of Light began to fight off a hoard of manikins that attempted to kill Cosmos. Just when the warrior was about to fall, Cosmos immediately took a stand and self-destructed, saving the warrior’s life and also ending the twelfth war in the process.
When the warrior awoke next he witness the dragon Shinryu awaken from his slumber in order to restart the war. As his fellow allies were being revived he also witnessed the disappearance of those that were killed by the manikins. With that the warrior fell into slumber, his memories once again were devoured by the dragon and together with his fellow allies they soon awoke in the thirteenth war.
With the beginning of the thirteenth war, the warrior awoke devoid of his memories from the previous war. Instructed by Cosmos, the warrior continues his mission and attempts to awaken the crystal in order to combat against Chaos’ forces. Battling against many powerful foes, his journey led him towards his nemesis Garland. The two did battle and in the end the warrior managed to prevail and earn his crystal due to his devotion to the cause. With crystal in hand, he joins his fellow warriors of Cosmos who had each gained their own crystal and heads towards their goddess.
Tragedy befell the group as Chaos appears before Cosmos and disposes of her right in front of her warriors. Without their goddess the warriors of Cosmos began to disappear into darkness, but the light of their crystals bought their form back for only a moment. With their time running out, the warriors dispatched the warriors of Chaos and defeated Garland who was the last person before Chaos himself. Before his final breath, Garland informed the Cosmos warriors that Chaos intended to destroy himself along with existence. In a climactic battle the warriors managed to defeat the god and save the worlds. The group finds themselves in the beautiful World A and each one of the warriors find themselves being teleported back to their own world. Alone and with crystal in hand, the Warrior of Light proceeds to walk down the meadow of World A and head towards the castle. With each step his memories of his battle continued to fall until at last the warrior fell unconscious.
Awakening without any memory of who he was and where he was, he was soon founded by three other individuals that held a crystal that much similar to the one that he carried himself. With nowhere else to go, the warrior chose to follow along with these individuals, feeling what felt like a kinship with them. Though the warrior profoundly desired not to be named, he was given the name Zest by his group, a name that strangely held warmth in his heart. Together the four headed off towards the kingdom of Cornelia upon hearing of a rumor about the princess being taken.
When they reached the kingdom the group who had done nothing were revered as saviours, all because of the crystals they held. They were told by the common folk that a prophecy stated that four warriors with crystal in hand would save the world and dispel the darkness that blanketed the world. Zest, who had no memory or purpose chose to make this his true task and swore to destroy the darkness along with his comrades.
Their first task was to save the princess of Cornelia named Sara from the rouge knight Garland. They traversed towards the Chaos Shrine, a place that felt almost familiar towards him and soon enough encountered the knight. The battle against the knight was vicious, but the entire battle felt far too familiar to Zest, as if he had fought this man before. Together the warrior fell the might knight and returned the princess back to her home.
This was the start of the Warriors of Light. Together, the group began traversing the world, defeating evil and gaining strength along the way. The group traveled towards each of the 4 crystals that governed the world. Before each crystal stood a fiend that caused the crystal to darken. Standing before the crystal of Earth stood Lich and before the crystal of flames was Marilith. Kraken stood before the crystal of water and the mighty Tiamat darkened the wind crystal. Together with their combined strength the warriors of light defeated each of the fiends and returned the light back to the crystals. Though their mission was thought to be over, in the end they learned that the true source of evil resided 2000 years in the past.
Together on their final mission, the warriors returned to the Chaos Shrine and used a portal there that would lead them to the past. Once there the warriors strangely fought off each of the four fiends once again and continued on until they came upon the true culprit. Garland, who they had thought had been dead, revealed that he was the true mastermind behind it all. Garland informed them that he had struck a deal with the four fiends in that when he dies in the present, the four fiends would send him back into the past where he would send the fiends of the past to the present, creating a timeloop. Gathering strength the knight turned into the god Chaos and attacked the party with the intent of keeping his timeloop. After an intense battle the warriors defeated Chaos and ended the timeloop, returning back to their own time.
Their mission was fully over, but because they defeated Chaos in the past, all their previous endeavors were forgotten by the people. To them the Warriors of Light were just some mere common folk, no different than anybody else. Though some would despair, Zest did not care, for he was happy. He was truly happy to have been with such friends and been able to remember his adventure. So long as he didn’t have to forget his precious time he was content. With sword in hand, Zest swore to uphold the peace and preserve the light.
"My strength is one with the Crystal!"
"I shall fight even if my body breaks."
"May the light forever shine upon us"
This is an alternate tale where good met its end…
A tale in which good was unable to end the cycle of conflict and was unable to prevent the awakening of pure chaos…
The god of discord had fallen mad. Gaining immeasurable strength, Chaos lost his mind and begun his mad pursuit to destroy everything. No matter who stood before him the beast brutally destroyed them, whether they be it friend or foe. The warriors that fought all too valiantly all perished to the god. One by one they fell. The world had been reduced to ruin, soon to completely disappear forever. Only two had survived the fallen god’s berserk wrath.
“the Light…will fall here” said the nameless warrior. Along with the goddess he so desperately severed, they were the last being left to counter the beast of a god. Hope was lost when the others perished. They all struggled so desperately to save the world, but what awaited them was a true and absolute death.
“Cosmos, as one whose job it is to preserve the light…I have failed. The world has been eclipsed into darkness and may never see the light again” the warrior said closing his eyes calmly. He had failed his task as a knight and was unable to prevent the horrific bedlam that was before him. Him and his allies, they all dreamt of a world filled with peace and harmony, but as it stood now that dream was an ever distant one. Though victory was impossible at this point, there was one thing that he truly believed in.
“Even though the world seem like it will perish soon, there is still hope…Cosmos, you are the last remaining source of light in this dying world, that is why you must live, live and return the light to this world” the warrior said as he turned and faced the goddess behind him. With this he immediately got on one knee and lowered his head.
“This is a humble request from one who serves you and wishes for your prosperity…please live and bring forth the harmony you’ve dreamt of. Please live and make the dream we all dreamt a reality” the warrior said. Rising to his feet once more the warrior turned away from his liege “I’m sorry it had to come to this, but this shall be my last duty as your knight” he said as he drew out his trusted shield and sword. No more words were needed to be said, he would protect the goddess until the very end. It was the goddess who brought meaning to his empty existence and because of this he would do anything to preserve her dream.
The warrior marched away from the divine safety of his goddess and headed for the beasts den. The thoughts of his fallen comrades…no to be more accurate, friends were still burning in his mind. To recall their smiling faces and then remember their brutal demise only brought great anger to the one empty man.
"Fowl Beast, This time, I will slay you with my light!"
