KH 3 Spoilers, takes place before Kairi leaves the islands
She hadn't told him about the plan yet. She hadn't told him because she knew very well how he would react. Riku was protective of her, he always had been since they were young. As he grew that protection spread to other people to. But she knew, she knew their would always be a special part for her and Sora. Maybe thst was why it was so hard to face him and say what she intended to do. Her grief sometimes made her forget but she wasn't the only one who lost Sora. So many others had... Riku had. His reaction to her now trying to find out where he had gone.... Of her leaving the safety of the islands... She knew well what it would be.
"Thank you sir"
Kairi would exit the small store, one of only a couple in their town with food stored in a bag over her shoulder. A sigh escaped her mouth as she began walking back towards the shore. She'd told the mayor, she told her school friends... The only person she hadn't told yet was Riku. She had no idea how to! No matter how she went about it he was bound to worry, even try to get her to stay why. She did understand why. She didn't have the same kind of experience everyone else had, even with her training. But nether did Sora or Riku when they started out, at least she had some formal training first! Besides she coudn't just... Sit here and wait. She coudn't do that anymore. She pulled her Gummi Phone from her pocket and tapped her chin in thought. Maybe if she just left him a message she could...
"No... He'd probaly be pretty mad if I left like that"
Placing the phone back in her pocket she came to a stop at the end of the small pier. Looking out to the sea she remebered back when they were younger, back to the start of all thus when her hair was shorter and their world so much smaller. They had seen so much since then. So much had happened to all of them. Each of them had grown in their own way, she crossed her arms across her chest and sighed once more. They had all been through far worse.
So why did telling Riku she had to leave seem like the toughest challenge yet?
"What should I say?"

It had been a long and tough battle, a battle in which they had lost so much. Though they had regained so much, the one that was responsible for their victory was now gone. It was Sora’s choice, something that was brought about because he followed his heart. He couldn’t fault anybody because of that, but at the same time he couldn’t ease him from the guilt he felt. Sora and Kairi had always been younger siblings to him. Though he was merely a year older than them, he always took the responsibility of looking after them. Perhaps that was why his hair was white...
It had been so long since they first left the islands and the three of them had been so much. He couldn’t help but think back to those times where he had to look after the two of them. He did everything he could to get Kairi’s heart when she lost it and when Sora fell into slumber he gave up who he was just so Sora could awaken. The three of them had been separated time and time again. Even if he was separated from them, so long as Sora and Kairi were together then he was fine with that. Those two love birds were just far too hard to keep together. He told Sora to take care of Kairi, but the boy was just too stubborn to do just that. With Xehanort’s defeat, this was supposed to be the time where they would finally be together, but Sora made his sacrifice.
It was quiet without his best friend around. Losing Sora was rather hard for the keyblade master, but he knew that the one who took it the hardest was Kairi. Seeing the grief on the girl’s face was something that was hard for him to deal with. He remained strong for her sake, but he knew that nothing could fill the void Sora left. All they really could do was believe that Sora would return home.
With Kairi in mind, Riku decided to check up on the girl to see how she was doing. Riku had his own plans of searching for his friend, though he felt he couldn’t just leave Kairi until he felt she was fine on her own. The walk towards the mayor’s house was rather short, but after speaking with the man his eyes widened and his heart began to race from what the man had to tell him.
Perhaps he should have kept a closer eye upon her but she was just being far too rash. His feet instantly began to move, dashing as he rushed through town hoping to catch her and even stop her before she departed. He ran as fast as he could, but the moment he noticed the red-haired girl dressed in pink his sprint had come to a halt and he soon slowed down to a halt.
“That’s a good question...what should you say?”
His voice was calm as the silver-haired male stood behind her, walking up to her slowly closing the distance between them. “You seem well equipped...Almost as if you’re leaving” Riku said, his voice remaining calm as usual though held some sternness to it as he approached her.

The sound of her friends voice made Kairi jolt in surprise. She turned to face Riku, her face clearly now wrought with worry. She hadn't expected it THIS soon. Had he followed her, or did he happen to be at the beach anyway? Did dad end up telling on her after all? She thought she had made him understand. Though she had told pretty much everyone but Riku at this point, he supposed most anyone they both knew could have spilled the beans to him. Well she didn't know for SURE that he knew... But why else would he be so stern with her right now? She gripped her hands to her side, her face looking to the water at her side, as if trying to find the answer.
"Riku I..."
One arm began rubbing the other as she thought things over in her head once more. The island princess then took a deep breathe and looked up at her friend with a more fiery, determined look in her eyes. She understood why Riku was like this. He always had been. An older sibling, the mature figure when her and Sora refused to be. But... They had all grown. She coudn't just rely on him anymore. Riku had a responsibility to more than just her, more than just Sora. But her? She only had one goal now that Xehanort was gone.
"I can't just keep waiting! He's out there somewhere... I know it! I'm.... I'm going to find him, and bring him home"
That determined gaze didn't leave her as she looked up at her friend. She had to do this. So many times Sora and Riku had come to her rescue, to everyone's rescue. But now... The world's were for the most part safe with Xehanort gone. Everyone was happy and reunited. But the person who made it possible wasn't here. Wasn't here because he sacrificed himself for one last sacrifice. To bring her back. She coudn't bring herself to just sit on the islands and wait knowing that. Because of her Sora had to use that power one to many times. She had to make things right... She had to bring Sora home.
"I've already been using the Gummi phones we were given to get things set up... I have to do this Riku, even it makes you mad... I need him here with us"
One more deep breathe, the fire in her eyes gave way to a more solem expression. Riku probaly thought she was being rash, hard headed but... She knew, this is what she needed to do, it was the only thing that felt right.
"It's... Empitier without him, theirs a big hole only he can fill... He.. he deserves a happy ending to Riku... I'm going to give it to him!"

He assumed that he was the reason for dilemma that made her ponder her words so much. Speaking to her made it clear that his assumption was correct and he knew why she would be so hesitant to speak to him. Riku was truly relieved that he managed to stop her in time. When the mayor told him she was leaving it was something that made him feel a sense of worry. She was hurting from the loss of Sora, and he couldn’t let her just run off in such a state, especially with the lack of experience she had. She had only just gotten the keyblade and though she had trained, experience was much more important than just training.
Riku couldn’t help but close his eyes and let out a sigh. Once he managed to reach her he stopped walking and looked down at her, crossing his arms as he looked into her eyes with a composed look. He was always the mature one of the three, the one that always kept his cool even during the worst of times. He had to be strong so that others would be strong as well. “Kairi, you are being rash. You know Sora as well as I do. You know that when he says something, he will make sure he follows through with it. Sora told us that he would be back, that he wouldn’t leave you alone any longer. That is why he used that power” Riku said.
Perhaps if he had been stronger then none of this would have happened. Perhaps he should have stopped Sora from even recklessly using the power of waking so soon. Each of these thoughts added guilt to him, but it was from his travels that he learned not to let guilt weigh him down, but instead work to rectifying the issue. Unfolding his arms, Riku gently placed his hand upon her shoulder and looked upon her with concern. “The best thing to do is wait for Sora’s return. I know it’s hard, but you have to believe in his return. Running around aimlessly is not going to solve anything and even though Xehanort is gone that doesn’t mean there aren’t any other enemies out there” Riku said. He could only hope that his words were getting through to the girl and that maybe she would stay at the islands. He won’t lose another one of his dear friends, he refused to lose anymore.

"Is that what you did when he was in trouble before Riku? Did you just sit around and wait?"
The words came out a bit harsher than she intended despite her intent. No, he didn't Riku took action like he always did. Like she needed to do now. For Riku he simply hadn't come back yet. But for her... She saw him dissapear. He sacrificed himself to bring her back after Xehanort's actions. His 'motivation' Wherever he was now... It wasn't here. She was tired of it. Every time they came back together something happened to rip them apart again. She wanted days where looking up to the sunset was a daily thing, not something that happened before tragedy. She wanted to bring him home. She sighed, crossing her arms across her chest.
"Wherever he is... I don't want him to be alone ether... Riku he doesn't even have Donald and Goofy with him now! Where he is.... It's alone... He's the last person that should suffer that"
In her heart it didn't feel right. She coudn't just sit here while Sora was lost. She belived in him of course, Sora had come back from so many things... So many times he had come to her rescue. But now? Now she could help him. And how else was she supposed to gain the experence she lacked without going on a journey like that. Besides...
"I doubt your just sitting around waiting ether Riku"
No she was certain Riku was coming up with his own plans to try and find Sora. Didn't he understand? She coudn't just stand around anymore. She belived in Sora, probaly more than anyone else. But she also worried for him. She worried about his safety and his well being.
"We all have the Gummi phone now, I can keep in contact while I look for him, can't I? I'll check in reguarly, I know you worry"
She gave a light smile to her friend. She knew why he worried so much but she had to do this. She had to do her part now that she could. For so long she was in the sidelines... But not anymore. Not while Sora coudn't be here with her. As much as she belived in him.... She coudn't stand being without him anymore. Thats why she had to go now.... Why she had to find him. The look of determination in her face was clear. She woudn't be backing down from this easly.
"For so long you two have been the ones to help me... Time and time again... But now its my turn, I want to help make a difference"

He truly hoped that Kairi would listen to his words and that she would just go home, but at the same time he knew deep down what her answer was going to be. The moment Kairi snapped back his eyes widened a bit taken back as he let go of her shoulder. “That’s not the same…” Riku said. His eyes couldn’t help but look towards the side as he recalled that time during their travels. In the end the reason that Sora got into trouble was because of his mistakes. It was his desires and acceptance of the darkness that had caused grief for them, that separated them. His actions were to clean up his own mess, but nonetheless that wasn’t to say Riku wouldn’t have just idly left his friend while he was in need.
He closed his eyes and listened to her words. Each word was passionate about her desire to leave and find the one that was precious to her. Once again he couldn’t help but look to the side as she noted that she doubted he would stay idle as well. His plans were already set as well and there was nothing that was going to stop him from searching as well. The only thing that held him back was the girl before him.
Her words were strong, far too strong for him to merely counter. Her words were powered by her grief and determination to set things right. How could he deny her after all she had just said? He wanted to out of sheer concern, but he knew he couldn’t coddle her. She was following her heart and who was he to stop her from doing so? His eyes opened and looked at her as she gave him a smile. She spoke about how it was her turn to act and Riku couldn’t help but feel a sense of comfort from her, something that made him believe in her words.
The silver haired male closed his eyes and let out an exasperated sigh as he raised his hand and held his temples. “The two of you will never change will you?” Riku said as he lowered his hand and smiled a soft smile before glancing over at Kairi. “Once you guys set your mind to something it’s almost impossible to change it” Riku said giving her a more casual smile as he walked forward and walked upon the dock, crossing his arms as he glanced out at the sparkling sea. “Alright, you win. If your heart is truly set then I cannot stop you” Riku said in defeat. “but even still...I guess I can’t stop worrying. I just don’t want to lose anybody else...” Riku said.

Kairi sighed. Maybe she had been a bit harsh. She hadn't meant to make Riku recall his past mistakes and redemptions. She just wanted him to see why she needed to get out there and find Sora. Riku had long since made up for the things he did in the past, even if he didn't think so. Of course she never held it against him to begin with. She knew all Riku had wanted was to help her. It was that witch and Xehanort's Heartless that used him and toom advantage of his flaws, of his want to help. Ever since he had been trying to make up for it... Though she suspected no know had ever held anger against him to begin with.
Well except Maleficent and the Heartless, but they deserved it as far as she was concerned!
"I'm sorry Riku... I know the past is hard for you"
She smiled as Riku seemed to finally accept her cause. She coudn't help but giggle to. He was right. Though Kairi would often be the judge of his and Sora's little competitions she was not the responsible one of the group. She was in all honesty as likely as Sora to jump into all kinds of situations, if with a little more thought beforehand. Riku was right of course. Once she set her mind to something it was hard to stop her. With this being for the person she cared for most...
She had no intention of stopping until she found him. She crossed her arms, a wide grin on her face.
"That's right! Best to just give in now Riku, this round belongs to me!"
She pumps her fist in the air, a wide grin on her face as she teased her close friend. His next words made her frown though. Of course he worried. She understood why, she knew the feeling all to well herself. Wondering if the people you cared for most would return home, wondering if you would see them again. If you'd be able to play on this beach once more... Without another word she turned Riku around and pulled him into a hug, her chin resting on his shoulder as she spoke once more, the voice wasn't her usual energetic one. It was one brought on by all the times she had to be left behind. A mix of happiness and sadness, confidence and worry. A calming one she hoped could bring just a little comfort to her friend.
"The bonds we share are forever, they will always bring the three of us back together, regardless of how far or how long were apart. From this point foward... We won't lose just to win anymore!"
The last part of her words were spoken with a clear confidence as she released the hug, a bright smile on her face. It was something she belived fully. The time of pain was over... They would find Sora and bring him home. She knew for sure...
Their would be happlly ever after.

Kairi apologized to Riku in regards to what she had said, though she truly held no reason to do such a thing. It was true that he didn’t really look back at his past actions fondly, but it was what made him the person he had become and he chose to use that to move forward. It was those experiences that made him able to accept his darkness and use it to protect the light.
Speaking on about Kairi and Sora’s stubbornness seemed to cause the girl to smile and even let out a giggle. Riku finally saw something that he wanted to see for quite a while and that was a smile from the girl he saw as a little sister. With Sora’s disappearance, Kairi had just been completely depressed and even distant. He knew he wasn’t as good as making others smile like Sora and with such an important person gone in her life he didn’t know if he was able to make her smile without Sora, but it warmed his heart to see her smile, to see her in high spirits and even confident.
Riku was always a competitive one, but by now he realized that he was in an unwinnable match. As Kairi stated, the round did belong to her. He couldn’t stop her, but he could still worry about her. As he continued to look out at the sea, his eyes widen as he was taken off guard and before he realized it he was looking down surprised as the redhead embraced him.
His eyes continued to look down upon her a bit stunned, but his eyes slowly closed as he listened to her words. The hug and words were enough to comfort him in a way. It made him believe that everything would be alright and that they would all be together again. Once she released him, she gave him a bright smile and Riku couldn’t help but smirk as he placed a hand upon the top of her head. “You’re just as sappy as he is” Riku said before ruffling her hair and then proceeded to remove his hand. While it wasn’t a bad thing to show weakness at times, Riku nonetheless usually tried to avoid showing such a thing. He always acted as the tough one of the three so that the other two didn’t have anything to worry.
“You said it yourself...Sora is completely hopeless without us...and knowing that lazy guy he is off probably off snoozing around without a care...which is why we’ve gotta wake him up and get him into gear” Riku said before suddenly he looked down upon her with a teasing smirk. "Besides, don't forget, you dorks actually shared a paopu so you're bound together" Riku said revealing that he bore witness to their rather heartwarming and private moment. Riku always was one to spit out superstition to the two as kids despite never really believing it himself. He'd always tease Sora about giving a paopu to Kairi and the fact that the two actually followed along and did it was amusing yet a sweet moment to watch. Those two really were dorks..but lovable dorks that would never change.
Though they weren't physically together, their hearts were bound by an unbreakable bond.

"Maybe, but I word it way better you know~"
The ruffling of her hair was met with a bright smile with her response. Riku was a wonderful person, a wonderful friend. He had always cared for his friends and he knew would do anything to help them. He was almost always serious but he had his moments like this. Moments where he just showed his emotions. It was funny, he called her sappy... But he was to in his own special way. One of her closest friends, the only one she had left...
For now anyway. They would change that, she just knew it.
She chuckled at Riku's confirmation of her earlier words. It would be just like the lazy bum to be layed about in some grassy field somewhere just waiting on them to poke him awake. Well that time was coming, so he better rest while he can! This time when she got him back, she woudn't be letting him go again. No they had plenty of that to last a life time. From now on the three of them would stand side by side. From here on out... She would help Sora. It was her turn to save him, to bring him back from the brink.
Assuming he didn't get tired of waiting... That thought made her smile. When it came to his friends he never stood still. She could almost picture him lifting himself back up and appearing in the first world she visted if she wasn't so sure he needed their help.
"Can't have him sleeping the rest of his days away can we? Together... We'll bring him home"
In her heart she knew it was true. Of course she knew she coudn't expect him to just never leave again. He was an adventrous spirit, he loved to help others. She woudn't make him stay in one spot but she would be VERY sure he didn't pull this huge stunt again! She was grateful... She could never repay him.
But do much of her life was emptier without him, she coudn't stand it! So no more! Being a hero was fine but she would not have Sora going poof on her for a third time.
She woudn't be able to take it
His next words might as well have turned her cheeks the same shade as her hair. She could have sworn he was in his own little world during that! Did he have eyes in the back of his head? No.... She really shoudn't have expected less. Riku always had an eye on her and Sora. She woudn't be surprised if even then he had the thought of teasing them about it once Xehanort was gone.
"Hey! That was a private moment Riku! Whats next, peeking in on the first date?!"
She quickly froze, relilazation of what she had just said aloud washing over her as she, if possible turned an even deeper shade of red than before. Had she really just said that? Right where riku could hear?! Oh he'd never let her hear the end of this. Clearly flustered she would try to salvage the situation with a cough into her hand and casually leaning her other hand against the pier's railing. she would try to appear as if she hadn't just complelty emberssed herself... And fail complelty.
"That ummm that is to say of course we are! Thats what the fruit does right? Were... Together ummm close friends I mean... Yes... Yeah"
Though it was probaly clear to anyonr who had been around them for five minutes Kairi stull felt the need to try and hide the fact. For one openly saying it mean't litterly endless teasing from Riku, the kind that she wasn't sure would ever end. But... It also woudn't be offical until he was here with her.
She crossed her arms, a sly grin appearing on her face as she played with her own tease.
"Just wait until you find someone Riku... Just wait"
Of course this being one of her two close friends she had a few ideas to...

Riku definitely had to admit that Kairi did put it far better than Sora did. The idiot usually was the sappiest of the three of them, but either way, it wasn’t to say there was much difference between Sora and Kairi on that front. Their minds were set on bringing Sora home and things would be back to normal. Riku smiled and gave her a nod in response as this whole conversation motivated him even more.
He had hoped to reveal the little secret he had when Sora and Kairi were together, but he just couldn’t help but tell the girl that he saw their little moment. While it was true he wanted a moment to himself to speak to his replica, once they were done talking Riku had a clear view from where he sat. Seeing her face turn such a bright red was quite pleasing to see. It was a clear sign he was doing his job quite right. He smirked upon her rather pleased with the result, but that smirk faded and his eyebrows rose up surprised by her sudden words.
He froze a bit caught off guard by her sudden words. Of course, the idea that Sora and Kairi were going to date was something far away from ever even being considered a surprise, but what did catch him off guard was how easily she was able to lower her guard like that and give him materials like that. Perhaps a rare sight for others, but Riku’s eyes closed as a smug smirk also slowly grew upon his face while she tried to compose herself. By the time she tried to salvage the moment, it was far too late as Riku began to burst into laughter.
“Close friends? Really now? Just close friends? I’m sure you must be planning loads of dates for your close friends then” Riku said in between laughter as he leaned against the nearby railing and took a deep sigh “I’ve been trying to get you two together for the longest time so of course I’m not missing your first date” Riku said with a smirk. “Can’t have you two botching up your first date, after all, gotta make sure you get that kiss I’m sure you’ve been dreaming of getting from that dork” Riku said closing one eye as he teasingly smirked before proceeding to laugh once more. It had been so long since he was able to laugh like this, to enjoy himself. He wanted more moments like this and they were going to have them when the bring Sora home.
The laughter slowed down but then came to a halt the moment Kairi spoke her retaliation. “Wait Huh?!” Riku’s eyes widened caught off guard by her words. He didn’t even think about what she had just said and the thought about being teased when he had a relationship didn’t even cross his mind until now. Closing his eyes he couldn’t help but scratch the back of his head with a frown at the thought. “I’ve…dug my own grave...haven’t I…” Riku said

She was glad to have Riku's agreement. As much as Sora's disperence hurt-still hurt her she was certain they could bring him back home. No... She KNEW it. Sora never stayed down. Losing his body once hadn't kept him down-it woudn't this time ether. Not if she had anything to say about it! Together with Riku they would find him and bring him back to the world. She would grow, improve herself. She wanted to become as useful as her friends. She refused to be a burden anymore. This time? She would be a hero. A hero for the man she cared about most.
He was clealry enjoying her flustered state. The big dummy! He was always like this, teasing her and Sora. A lot of it flew over Sora's head of course, especiully when they were younger-but he made sure she got her share as well. But that was ok. Their would come a time when Riku Riku met his own special someone-sooner rather than later if her own guesses were correct. When it did? Oh she would be sure to get her payback! He would not see any let up from her after all these years!
That, and the thought of her friend in his own flustered state was to adorable to resist!
His comments maintianed the red of embarsement on her now though, his statements easly broke the facide she had put up. This was whay he was good at and sometimes she almost hated it! As serious as he could be he still knew exactly how to mess with her. Her response was to look away from him in an attempt To hide the embarisment on her face.
"I think I can handle it just fine Riku! Jeez.. I... I can handle our stuff!"
She struggled between trying to avoid confirming Riku's teasing and trying to maintain her already shattered facide of confidence and it showed clear with the way her words came out. She woudn't admit it aloud of course and give him more fuel, but Riku wasn't wrong. A dream of Kairi's was to finally have that first kiss. But more than anything? She wanted to hold him again.
She found her ground though when her own words got to Riku. Her own cocky grin crossed her face and with a fluroish she walked about her friend, hands held together behind her back. Oh yes, she had found her opening in this bout of teasing!
"You heard me Riku~ when you find that special someone you'll be getting it back tenfold, every tease-every jab is coming back your way"
She'd giggle rather heavly as she leaned in eith a grin.
"Oh yes, deep as can be Riku~ Checkmate~"
She then leaned back and seemingly out of nowhere started laughing! Yes more moments like this... With Riku... With Selphie. With Sora and everyone else. That was wanted-happinees for all of them. Peace. Their bonds woukd never break. She could still feel them alive and well. Sora's was still bright within her along with everyone elses.
"We'll bring him home... And the three of us will be together again, I just know it"
She gave a playful wink, her grin widining once more with her resolve.
"That's the only destiny I'll embrace"

Riku could read Sora and Kairi like a book when it came to their relationship. The two obviously had a thing for each other and now that the two were sharing their feelings for one another it was still amusing to see the two all bashful. It was practically his duty to tease the two, but Kairi was always a formidable foe. While Riku usually had an edge, there were times Kairi was able to counter and this was quite a good blow.
Checkmate really was the best thing to say as Riku suffered a defeat. Riku frowned and scratched the back of his head, but Riku soon began to laugh alongside the red headed girl. A sigh escaped his lips as she looked up at the sky with a soft smile as a thought began to run through his head. Up until this point he had never really thought about getting into a relationship with another, always focusing on getting Kairi and Sora together. In reality, when he thought about it he was rather jealous of his best friends relationship. Having something like what the two had would be rather nice, but was there somebody he could share that with?
Riku’s eyes glanced back down at Kairi as she began to speak on about the three of them reuniting with each other, Riku looked down upon his palm and opened it calmly. “Yeah...no matter what, I promise Sora will return...” Riku said narrowing his eyes a bit. “In the end I still have my last trump card...I still have that power...” Riku said clenching his fist. The very thing that Sora used to save everyone at the expense of losing himself, the power of awakening, Riku still held that power. Mickey had warned him about using that power, preventing him from using it to save Sora, but if it was something that could save Sora then why should he hesitate?
Riku knew full well that using the power of awakening to bring back Sora could lead to Riku being lost to the world just like Sora was currently, but Riku was hopelessly selfless at time that he never really did think about the consequences for himself. Though a cautious man, he would do anything for his friends, even if it meant woe for himself. Seeing Kairi so filled with grief was enough for him to wish to do so. He would reunite the two no matter what.

A laugh alongside Riku. It felt good, it helped ease her nerves for what was ahead. She knew Riku would always worry about her, it was just the kind of person he was. He coudnt really blame him ether-she she had a bit of a track record at this point... BUT BUT! this would be different. They could all contact each other whenever they needed to. They had all grown both emotionally and physically. Riku was a Master now... Had she had a chance to congratulate him for that...? She should before she set off on her way-she might not get another chance for a while.
"Riku... I don't think I've had a chance but congrats on becoming a Master! I'm proud of you"
A bright smile followed as pulled her close friend into a close hug before backing. Riku shared in her promise and she gave a confident nod in turn. Yes, no matter what they would bring that knucklehead home to them. Once they did she would be bringing him on adventures this time! The idea of visiting some of those worlds alongside him...
It made her heart flutter, but she defnetly wasn't slipping and letting Riku hear as such! He was teasing her enough as is! Though Riku's suggestion of using 'that power' would quickly see Kairi's warm smile turned to a glare aimed straight at him! A hand went to her hip and she shook her head with confidence.
"No, please"
Her tone didn't have anger behind it but it was firm. She didn't want to get Sora back just to lose Riku in turn.
"Besides... You know how Sora is, do you really think he's not going to turn right around and try to bring you back? No we just... Their has to be another way, a safer way"
At the end her tone had become more of a please. A 'please don't do that Riku' she wanted Sora back more than anything of course... But she didn't want to sacrifice her other best friend to do it.
"And do you know how much trouble we would get in without you?"
A weak chuckle followed as she tried to end with a joke, but failed pretty clearly on tone. She took a deep breath and just sighed. They would find another way. They had to... A way for all three of them to be together again.
Together... On the shores of this island. That's all she wanted.
"Please... Promise me Riku"

Riku was so grateful to have such wonderful friends. Ever since he received the title of Keyblade Master, Riku had never really thought of how much of a big accomplishment it really was. When he did that exam, he had completely forgotten about completing it and had solely focused on saving Sora and stopping Xehanort. It was an honest surprise when Yen Sid told him he passed yet Sora didn’t. Even though he didn’t pass, Sora was so happy for him and now so was Kairi. They celebrated his achievements when even he didn’t do so.
The sudden hug caught Riku off guard and it was something he really should get used to after dealing with two energetic dorks for so many years. A soft chuckle escaped his lips as he looked down and smiled. “Thanks Kairi” Riku said appreciating the rather late congrats. It was a sweet moment, though Riku’s more gloomy side kind of ruined the moment. It wasn’t his intention to lower the mood into a more depressing one and Riku was more so focused on deciding to use the power of waking, his eyes merely staring at his palm as he did so.
Eventually his eyes would glance up at Kairi and immediately he would be met with an unexpected glare. “Huuuh?!” Riku let out as his eyes immediately widened as he took a step back and raised his arms almost as if he was just about to be struck a physical blow. She was a princess of light and quite a kind one, but perhaps Riku was one of the few that knew not to get her upset.
She was firm in her request, but Riku could tell that firmness was breaking down to a plea as she was worried about losing him as well. Kairi brought up a good point about Sora going after him. The three of them were just so stubborn that it really made it difficult to decide on something if they differed it would cause some problems. Standing straight and looking into her pleading eyes, Riku closed his eyes and sighed as a hand went into his silver hair and began to scratch the back of his head. “Your right…” Riku said as he lowered his hand and placed it upon his hip before giving the girl a confident smirk. “I guess I can’t afford to leave the two of you alone just yet” Riku said as he let out a chuckle “You won’t be able to get rid of me that easily…remember that when you and Sora are getting all lovey dovey” Riku said as he placed a hand ontop of her head. “I’m not the kind of guy that takes the easy way…I’ll find him without that power….its still a race to find him and I don’t intend on cheating” Riku said ruffling her hair once more. “I don’t intend on losing” Riku said. It was a challenge he knew that he had a far greater chance of losing, but it was a challenge to spur the two. Sora was like his brother, and he intended on finding him. Taking a step forward he stood by the edge of the dock and looked out at the beautiful sea. "Let go bring him home..." Riku said

Riku seemed to understand her thoughts. She should have known he would. rare did Kairi get really upset. But when did it was noticable. Of course the biggest trigger for that was stuff involving her friends. Riku and Sora knew that well-even with how little it came out. An upset Kairi was very much not a Kairi they wanted to fight.
But... More than anything she just didn't want this cycle. She wanted them sit on this beach together again. She wanted them to talk and share what they did that day. To talk about dreams and nightmares. To play games and good around. She just... Wanted things to be how they used to be.
She remained stiff until Riku replied to her. The moment he said she was right her body relaxed and she gave a sigh of relief. Not because she cared that she was right in this instance. But because he wasn't going to go through with that path.
"Thank you Riku..."
The smile returned to her face as Riku stated it would take a lot more than that to take him down. Didn't she know it! Riku and Sora were the most stubborn people she knew! No matter what was thrown at then they just kept trucking. Though... That smile was quickly replaced with a look of emberisment at his next words, her cheeks turning as red as her hair.
"Hey were not some cutsey couple! I mean... I... You know what I mean!"
She was defnelty getting back at him for all this. If it was with Naminé or anyone else. When Riku found a partner she would NEVER let up on him. She would turn his teasing back on him ten fold!
Riku was right though. They would find a way to bring Sora back, without risking anyone else. They would play with each other on the sands of this beach once more. Just sit and talk on that tree trunk. She just knew it. His words also had the side effect of getting her riled up. One thing they all shared was an air of competivness. Though Riku and Sora's was the strongest Kairi could have her own streak to.
"Sorry Riku but I've got the papou fruit on my side, this is in the bag!"
She thrust her arm in the air to show her determination, something that was clear on her face as well.
Riku now stood beside her on the docks, the pair looking out towards the sea they sought to cross all that time ago. It seemed so long ago... They had all grown so much since then. Sora... They were coming for him-he would be at their side again to share this view, these memories.
"Yes.... Let's go get him Riku"
