Galuf Halm Baldesion
Warrior of Dawn
Warrior of Light
King of Bal
Krile Mayer Baldesion, his cherished granddaughter. His pride and joy.
An old man that trusts his instinct and acts upon it. Galuf appears to have a lack of respect for serious situations, often cracking jokes or making fun of people. Even making fun of his amnesia and playing with it when he does regain his memory. On the inside, he does feel troubled and simply feels uncomfortable in a role of authority. He truly is good at taking the commanding role, but prefers not to do so and is afraid of dragging people into situations. Thus preferring to try and use his flippancy to deal with this.
Despite being a lover of bad puns, Galuf has a fierce courage and determination to perform his role in life. He is immensely loyal to his companions and will not rest when they get in trouble. If they find themselves into a bad situation, he will plunge headling into the danger to protect them. Usually acting upon impulses and his instant, he never doubts his will to continue no matter the outcome. His greatest pride and joy is his granddaughter, whom he loves fiercely and they look out for each other.
At one point in their world, Exdeath had awakened from the Great Forest of Moore. The warlock having been formed from the tree where Enuo, the warlock-king, was sealed within. Galuf joined Dorgann Klauser, Kelger Vlondett, and Xezat Matias Surgate into forming the Warriors of Dawn. Together they followed Exdeath into another world where they managed to defeat the warlock. As they lacked the power to actually kill him, they chose to seal him using the four crystals of this world they found themselves in. As Galuf, Xezat, and Kelger left to go back to their own world, they left Dorgann behind who chose to stay and watch over the seal.
Galuf took up rulership of Bal when he returned, the three chose to try and repair the lands that had been devastated by Exdeath. Keeping contact with the other two, whom took rulership of their own countries, they made sure to keep the land save until Exdeath broke his seal. Having ruled over Bal for thirty years, he discovered that the crystals were weakening and chose to return to the other world.
Using a meteor as his method of traveling, Galuf crashed nearby the castle of Tycoon and suffered a blow to his head. His weapons and armor were destroyed in the crash and he became amnesiac. While having lost his memories, he still felt his instinct urge him to find the crystals as he was found by Bartz and Lenna. Hearing that Lenna was found for the Wind Shrine, he decided to accompany her. Bartz initially decided to not go along, but soon returned and they decided to take a pirate ship. Lenna initially wanting to request a ride upon the ship, Galuf waived this idea away as they went to steal said ship instead.
Failing to steal it as they could not commandder the ship, the pirates captured them. The captain, Faris, decided to let them go and joined them on their quest. Once they got to the Wind Shrine, they witnessed it shatter and the King of Tycoon vanish. The shards bestowed upon them the title of Warriors of Light and charged them to protect the remaining crystals.
This started their quest to go from crystal to crystal. Along the way to the Water Crystal, they lost Sylda the sea dragon that moved their ship. In the Ship Graveyard a monster tried to lure them into a trap by using illusions of their beloved ones, but Galuf did not recognize Krile as his memories were gone. Managing to save the other three thanks to his immunity to the Siren's illusions, they defeated her and continued on. In Walse another meteor struck the world and they went to investigate.
At Walse Tower they found a knight in orange rather than blue, which was unusual for this world. As they managed to fight a monster off, the knight apologized to Galuf while referring to him as “Lord Galuf”. He died afterward before Galuf could inquire about his own indentity. The Water Crystal had shattered and soon the tower collapsed. There they were saved by Syldra, who was thought to have perished. Exploring the meteor, they found a warp point that brought them near Karnak.
Here they were arrested, but managed to convince the chancellor of Karnak to allow them investigating a fire-powered ship that was causing problems. The ship held the Fire Crystal and the queen had disappeared on it. A possessed Queen Karnak was found here, but they failed to save the Fire Crystal as it shattered. The meteor they had found before had been used by a werewolf that found them there and saved them as he sacrificed himself. The werewolf addressed Galuf as “Sir Galuf”, but died before Galuf could learn more about his past once again.
Returning to Karnak and seeing the relationship between Mid and Cid Previa, some memories returned to him as he recalled his granddaughter. Also remembering that the crystals' destruction would return Exdeath, he felt the urgency of his quest all the more. They then headed to the last crystal with the aid of Cid and Mid. Heading to Ronka Ruins, his memory was getting clearer. However, when they finally reached the Earth Crystal, it shattered and found King Tycoon possessed.
As they tried to fight the king, Lenna and Faris stopped Galuf and Bartz before Krile came crashing in. Breaking the spell on the king, Galuf's last traces of amnesia vanished upon the sight of Krile. However, now Exdeath was freed, he appeared to taunt Galuf and head towards his world. Resolving to stop him, Galuf forbade Bartz, Lenna, and Faris from joining him and Krile as they headed to their own world.
There Galuf returned to Bal and started to lead a charge across the Big Bridge before he was forced to halt. Having ignored his warnings, his three friends had followed him and were captured. Exdeath displayed them to him to stop the attack from Galuf's army. Chosing to infiltrate the castle, Galuf went to rescue the three and defeated Gilgamesh within the castle. Having fled from the castle, Exdeath activated a barrier that flung them away.
Returning to the castle of Bal, Galuf told them his tale and insisted they were friends and not to address him by any royal titles as they three were surprised to learn he was a king. From there Galuf started to meet up with his old friends, the Warriors of Dawn. However, Kelger was bedridden and Xezat soon sacrificed himself after meeting to bring down the shield over Castle Exdeath.
The group continued to meet the turtle Ghido and were directed to the Great Forest of Moore where the crystals of this world were kept. After freeing the crystals from their seal, Exdeath appeared to them and took control over the crystals. Krile tried to stop him, but Exdeath then tried to kill her. Overcoming the power of the crystals, Galuf saved his granddaughter, but shattered one of the crystals in the process.
Moving on to attack Exdeath, Galuf was showered with powerful attacks and magic, but refused to fall no matter what Exdeath did. As the warlock found himself incapable of defeating Galuf, he fled with the crystals. Having been drained of all his strength as he had stood tall against Exdeath, protecting his granddaughter and friends, he collapsed and soon passed away as nothing the four others could do managed to save him.
Imploring the others to defeat Exdeath with his final breath, Galuf's spirit left his body, but would return through the power of the Guardian Tree to speak to Krile to tell her to continue the fight in his stead and that he would always be in her heart. With this, he transferred all his strength and wisdom to Krile, elevating her to the status of Warrior of Light in his stead.
Afterward his spirit would keep on providing aid as he stayed in contact with Krile and aided the group when they faced Neo Exdeath on escaping the Interdimensional Rift as well as restoring any of them that had fallen to the world of the living.
"Whose idea was it to steal that pirate ship, anyway?"
"Oh my stars and comets he's a she!"
"This is not anger...nor is it hatred!
"Bull, you know you just have the hots for her."
"Oh, don't be so wimpy. Learn a thing or two from Krile. She's far your junior, but has twice your pluck!"
"I'll be there for all of you until the very end."
Galuf looked around himself as he rubbed his head, "oh, my head," he slowly said to himself. He felt like cracking a joke about it, but considering there didn't seem anyone nearby in the vicinity to hear it. "No point in that," he said with a shrug as he got off from the ground. Looking at the floor he was on, it was grey and a typical castle floor, but the architecture when he looked around himself were far too unfamiliar.
It definitely wasn't Bal, that was for sure. Now he thought of it, "hmm!" He patted himself on his torso and his arms, "oh my stars! I am alive!" he shouted surprised while taking a step back. Thinking about it, he was sure he had died, maybe he even kicked someone else back to life before his spirit left the world. Or did he? "I can't seem to remember," he scratched his head extensively. Then merely shrugged as he continued to take a good look at the dark interior of the room.
As things stood, Galuf was certain that he was in some sort of castle, or perhaps a dungeon, one of the two. Or maybe they're the same thing anyway. It looked very dusty, also there were cobwebs everywhere, "who would drop an old man in a dungeon without a guide? Where are the youngsters?" he called out into the dark, "I'll have you know that when I crash landed a meteor into a planet, I did at least get a young girl to help me on my way! At least have me that!" he called out louder while raising a fist to nobody in particular.
As the echoes through the place from his voice slowly went away and silence took hold again, Galuf let out a sigh. "On my own then," he said with a shrug while checking his gear, he did seem to be equipped at the very least. So all was well if he did get attacked, that was an improvement from the state he was in back in the other world.
