Black Waltz No.1
Unknown. Less than a year.
Roamer, To attain power for... personal reasons...
Black Waltz No.2 (More powerful successor)
Black Waltz No.3 (More powerful successor)
Black Waltz No.1 can best be described as inquisitive, curious and envious, showing great interest in acquiring more power for his own purposes. He has been shown to be mildly curious how entities can resist his magic, even asking them if rhetorically. He is quite envious the abilities granted to his younger siblings along with their more functional forms, believing that he had been deprived of the abilities (both physical and magical) that he rightly deserved. However, despite this pride and entitlement, Black Waltz No.1 is quite devious and calculating, attacking Zidane and party before they had even seen each other face-to-face with a Blizzard attack. Unlike his other two kin, Black Waltz No.1 is more than willing to strike from the shadows, freezing his opponent's solid or forcing them asleep with his specialized Blizzard attacks!
He also has no qualms about summoning aid to his side either in the form of his Sea-lion... and is sometimes overly quick to do so, betraying his own insecurities. He shows a particular distaste of fighting alone in any environment, quickly summoning his ice-themed monsters to the field to draw attention away from himself. While he's not "weak" persay and will never suggest such a thing, he constantly seeks out new sources of power in an effort to close the gap between himself and his kin.
Black Waltz No.1 seems to care about his the creatures he summons... if only in the capacity that they keep him alive and safe. He readily has a spell on hand to keep his creatures healed... and another to keep them protected. Black Waltz No.1 Is nothing if not an opportunist, seeking to exploit any weakness in order to get an edge on his opponent. For example, freezing Zidane's entire party solid and forcing him to work alone... though the intention was to kill them all before the thief had even gotten that close. Honor is a foreign concept to the creature... as is the integrity it's built upon.
Black Waltz No.1 holds a particular grudge against Zidane for his defeat at the ice-cave... A debt he seeks to collect on, but not too quickly. If he can get in his good graces or freeze him from the shadows... he will if an opportunity presents itself. Until then, his need for vengeance will stew quietly.
However, his initial programming of "KIDNAP THE PRINCESS" had long since gone quiet, leaving the mage to do as he will...
Black Waltz No.1, as his name implies, was the first of a special hit-squad of Black Mages constructed for the sole purpose of bringing back Princess Garnet til Alexandros to Alexandria and killing her kidnappers. Having stalked the party of Steiner, Vivi, Garnet and Zidane long enough to deduce where they were headed, Black Waltz No.1 set himself up among the ice within "The Ice Cave" near the exit. He had hoped the savage monsters would've torn them to shreds... but it seemed rag-tag band to thugs and traitors were more capable than he had expected... He watched them as they progressed through the cave, hidden among the ice as his summoning bell chimed with the shuffling of his feet.
Realizing that he wouldn't stand a chance if all four party members attacked, Black Waltz No.1 chose to take them ALL out at once with one mighty blizzard attack! As the sub-zero temperatures froze the party solid, one by one succumbing to their hypothermia, Zidane fought through the devastating attack, finally coming to the ending chamber within which the mage resided. Black Waltz 1 was surprised how the Genome was able to resist his attack but then... he was but a monkey... Confident, he leapt down from his perch to confront Zidane, summoning to his side his Sea-Lion!
...And the story might've ended there for the thief... Their attacks were savage, relentless, their combination of team-work and raw power backed the thief into a corner... But they had not counted on the secret and mighty power known as Trance! Black Waltz No.1 was completely overwhelmed and his Sea-Lion not long after him by this incredible power, the mage left completely unconscious face down in the snow...
Black Waltz No.1 had somehow survived this encounter, however, coming back to himself soon after Zidane led his crew of traitors to a local village. His wings were damaged so he could not fly, his body naturally incapable of moving fast on it's own and so... determined to take his revenge... Black Waltz No.1 hobbled after the party, following their tracks to a town of Dali... Arriving just in time to witness the defeat of Black Waltz No.2! He couldn't help but feel a dark pleasure as his younger kin was knocked off her pedestal. JUST as Black Waltz No.1 was about to capitalize on the weakened state of the party and attack himself, suddenly they jumped for the airship, aiming to make a quick get-away!
Determined not to be left behind Black Waltz No.1 made a DESPERATE grab for the rope-ladder as the rest of the party climbed aboard, Hanging on by the LAST rung as the ship took into the air! Were it not for his freakishly long arms, he might've just missed the jump... Nevertheless, he waited along the side of the ship for the party to be distracted before climbing aboard himself, slinking into the bowels of the ship...
It would be HERE he would take his revenge... Even IF he couldn't defeat them when they were together... he might not need too! One well-placed blizzard and this ship would be rendered inoperable! Then they would fall out of the sky and NOTHING would save them! Within the cargo-hold the mage dwelled, his clawed hands cupped together as he conjured his power... Until the scent of o-zone distracted him... The mage shivered as the heavy sound of beating wings and the crackling of thunder radiated throughout the ship.... recognizing those noises...
Black Waltz No.3...
No.1 lowered his hands and dispelled his magic, instead choosing to slink back up to the top deck to watch... Well, if No.3 took them out FOR him, he supposed that would be an acceptable outcome... After all, it didn't matter who killed them so long as they were dead, correct?...
...How wrong he was.
Black Waltz 3 cared little for collateral and with ONE MIGHTY THUNDARA, All the black mages on the ship that sought to aide Vivi... and Black Waltz 1 as he shuffled along with them.... Were THROWN from the ship!
No.1 watched as the deck exploded above him, his body crackling with electricity, barely scraping by shrapnel of wood... and witnessing his lessers not be so lucky... The collection of mages fell HARD into the forest below, Black Waltz No.1 again falling unconscious among the branches and leaves of a tree he fell into...
Awakening... not in said tree... but... within darkness, the mighty Black Waltz began to panic, Ice instantly encapsulating his black surroundings and shattering them... to reveal he was in a barrel...? No.1 observed that he was in a factory... barrels and assembly-lines full of mages being pushed out... Workers coward in fear as this superior mage turned his attention to them, those two apparently responsible for his... Rescue... Apparently, they had thought him one of the other black mages and put him in a Barrel for shipping! Why... he ought to FREEZE THEM SOLID!
...Well... Whatever they had done to him while he was unconscious, it had restored him to his full power... So he let them live... Who could say? Perhaps he could use them again someday.... Flapping his mighty wings, Black Waltz No.1 flew in the direction the ship had been headed, determined to find his prey and take them out once and for all! Eventually, he had come across a massive gate, the gate through which Lindblum was housed on the other side... And it was closed...
This is the only place they could GO! There was no wreckage he passed on the way here and there was no airship-ports ANYWHERE except that retched city and he was LOCKED OUT OF IT!
...Bah. He would have to wait... Wait until a new trail picked up...
The Mage began to wander this section of Gaia, always returning to the gate within a few days time to see if it would open! It never did. Frustrated and short on patience, Black Waltz No.1 began HAMMERING the door with Magic, summoning Sea-Lion after Sea-lion until the entire outside of the door was frozen and battered... but stalwart in it's positioning... Seeing that ice that was on the wall Black Waltz No.1 retreated back to Alexandria... where he stayed, merely waiting among the other mages... Until the battle for Alexandria!
Black Waltz No.1 found, to his surprise, he was fighting the monsters that had invaded alongside the Alexandrian guard instead of just... letting them rampage! Perhaps it was to preserve his own life... or perhaps he had some attachment to this place he had called "home" this long... Whatever his reasons, he simply could not compete with these creatures... Whatever he cast upon them, they simply shrugged off... but he and his Sea-Lions did do enough to keep them busy...
It seemed that his struggles were for naught, however as the Invincible made SHORT work of Alexandria, blowing it to pieces... and Black Waltz No. 1 away! There he remained... unconscious until the final battle with Kuja, awakening to a world free of the devastation and war that had once rocked it.... But a new threat loomed on the Horizon, a dark force spreading throughout the worlds... Black Waltz No.1 will have to choose what kind of creature he wishes to be... and if he will embrace this new energy at the cost of his own self!
Black Waltz No.1 Stands at about 5'10'' from the tip of his hat to his boots, his body LARGE and hunched over. He wears a tattered brown coat over a white shirt paired with white pants and foot-wraps. His hat is long and worn with the tip long since having come unraveled, the rim ragged and torn in places and patched in others. He has abnormally long arms and abnormally short legs, giving him an almost ape-like appearance, his wings just BARELY large enough for him to manage some kind of temporary flight... His hands are purple, boney and clawed, almost like the talons of a crow, much like the rest of his kin. Unlike them, however, Black Waltz No.1 is completely incapable of standing upright and is forced to shuffle around place to place, limping as if he's in pain due to his failure of a physique.
No.1 has a summoning bell he always carries, the object acting as a medium for his magic as well as the chime to summon his Sea-Lion. BW1's eyes glow white.
"Ugh... Sea-Lion, kill them for me!"
"You should be dead by now..."
Black Waltz No.1 wandered through the streets of Alexandria, his feet shuffling loudly beneath him... Ever since the defeat of Kuja, Black Waltz No.1 had been left without a true purpose, left to quietly ponder what it is he would DO until his wreck-of-a-body gave out on him... POWER was a must... he had to attain strength and prestige to STICK IT to the rest of his kin who so mocked him for his shoddy craftsmanship!... He grumbled to himself, the little little bell he carried chiming with each step... So NOW the princess had attained the throne... and that MONKEY had risen to become the effective king... How utterly undeserving. WHAT GAVE HIM THE RIGHT TO RULE A COUNTRY while he was here... on the streets among these HUMANS, forced to lend his magic for the coin necessary for residence?
...It was unjust...
He deserved MORE...
All he needed was an opportunity and power would be his... Power, wealth, everything he needed to prove that he was the superior mage... that HE was not someone to be cast aside! Black Waltz No. will BE No.1!!!
