She stepped from her portal of darkness, looking to the area around her. A forest this time, another world to look through. Going through the darkness this time... She still felt the tingle in her chest from before. However this time it was weaker-bothered her a bit less. Well the old man had said as much. All she had to do was stop holding it back. Let if flow, come to her bit by bit. She'd get stronger as long as she wasn't afraid to embrace it. Well... She didn't mind that. It was just another tool, a weapon for her to use to her ends.
"It's my power... Theirs no reason to hold it back"
The mage contemplated to herself. Following the elder's advice helped her thus far. Of course she didn't mind how she molded herself, What she had to do to herself. So long she gained the power to make her wish a reality... That's all that mattered to her. It's all that would ever matter until she struck that monster down once and for all. Succeeding where the useless rebellion failed. Avenging her parents... In her heart that's all that mattered to her... Getting the power to do so.
The teen began making her way down the trail in curiosity. She was curious of what this world had to offer her. Already it looked more promising than the islands. A... Magical feel to it she supposed. That alone gave her reason to look further. Of course she didn't expect the ultimate power to roll out at her feet. No, that would be a pathetic dream to want for her. Bit by bit.. piece by useful piece. That's what she wanted. Anything that made her stronger would be fine by her. Perfect for her to use. She couldn't say she overly cared what needed to be done to retrieve those pieces ether.
"You two... I will make him pay..."
Their was no question-it was a forgone fact to her. She WOULD remove that beast from existence once and for all. The mage looked to the sky above, then the forest all around her. Yes it was promising to her. If nothing more it gave her more to learn... But that deepest desire would always be at the forefront of her mind. Because in the end that was all that mattered. She would do what she had to in order to follow through with it.

Lycoris’ sapphire eyes reluctantly cracked open, a mere fraction of an inch as her consciousness returned to her. The light filtering through the canopy, though diminished greatly by the overhead foliage, its’ presence still harsh enough upon her disoriented mind and aching body to elicit a pained wince from between her lips. Where am I? , Lycoris wondered as she’d raked her brain as she’d tried to identify the surrounding fauna. It took her only a sparse handful of seconds to realize, the fauna wasn’t native to her home world, nor the nightmarish hellhole that she’d found herself stranded on with Siuan. [break][break] Her last cognizant memory before she’d awoken was that of Siuan’s face, particularly the way her eyes were wide with unspoken horror. In their reflection, Lycoris had seen herself, plummeting backwards into a swirling mass of darkness, a shadowy clawed hand anchored firmly around her ankle. In response to that dreaded though, Lycoris’ entire body jerked, heaving itself upwards into a seated position. She ignored her bodies protest, swallowing down the bile that had risen into the back of her throat as she tried to suppress the waves of nausea that threatened to overtake her. Lycoris’ eyes darted back and forth, quickly scanning her immediate surroundings for any trace of the creature or her valued comrade. [break][break] To her chagrin, there wasn’t a distinguishable trace of either to be seen. Without delay, Lycoris finished her primary survey of her surroundings, the undisturbed foliage instilled her with the perception that wherever she was, it hadn’t seen visitors in quite some time – a fact that didn’t bode well for the lost Psicom Agent. Lycoris’ gaze shifted downwards, dutifully raking across her own body as she’d took stock of her injuries, categorizing them as she’d went. Fortunately, she had a few minor scrapes and bruises, one moderate laceration caused by the clawed hand of one those opaque creatures. She’d returned the favor earnestly, smashing its’ head inwards like an overripened melon. [break][break] Unlike any other creature she’d encountered, it didn’t cry out in agony, it didn’t bleed. No, instead it simply dissipated into nothingness, releasing a singular heart-shaped mote of light. It hadn’t even been satisfying to crush it with her biomechanical fists, which speaking of, she needed to do an initial diagnostic test of its’ functions to determine if they’d sustained any lasting damage – its’ bioorganic regenerative capabilities would negate that given ample time. Frankly, that did little to ease her mind, especially because during the downtime, she’d been without the use of either of her hands. [break][break] She started with a relatively simple test, wiggling each finger tip by itself, then bending each one at the joint until she’d made a full fist. This was repeated several times with an increased sense of urgency until she was entirely certain, that her movements matched the nervous signals sent from her brain through her synapses to the piece of machinery. With it’s basic functions online, Lycoris deemed it an appropriate time to test out at least one of the outfitted manadrives. For the time being, she’d elected to use the one that would prove most beneficial for the time being, a curative drive. [break][break] She heard the mechanized whirling from within her gauntlets, pleased when the manadrive activated and an invigorating warmth began to trickle through her body. Before her very eyes, the wound on her leg had also begun to knit itself back together. In her excitement, she’d forgotten that its’ momentary flash of white light was a perfect way to expose her position.

A flash of light, brought her from her thoughts. The white light shown bright not far from the young mage. Curiosity sparked in her and she felt compelled to move towards it. At first staying behind a nearby tree. She watched the result of that light closely. The young girl had a Keen eye, and saw what wounds that were visible on the woman's body begin to mend. Magic then? Perhaps, but it felt different from what she was used to. She couldn't be sure however, for all she knew that was the case for others worlds, different magic and different ways to use. Still it made her curious as to what those differences were. It made her want to know what made them ticked, how they worked. It was that curiosity that made her step forward, lowering the hood she normal wore over her to give the woman a full view of her.
"Greetings, I hope I'm not... Intruding"
If their was a benifet to being her age, it was that people tended to not immidiatly see her as a threat. Which was good for her, most often when she didn't intend ill will in the first place. No in this case the magic was what had her attention, her curiosity. She cared not what the woman was up to. She wasn't a threat to her and didn't seem a threat to anything else at the moment, so she didn't care. To her it was fine to indulge in her curiosity.
"My curiosity simply... Got the better of me you know? That light.... Then your wounds healing, but the magic felt different than what I'm accustomed to"
In her world anyone could learn magic if they applied themselves, From beasts to humans you could teach yourself or have others do so, usually for a fee. But she wasn't sure how to describe the difference aside from the woman's feeling less 'natural' though even that could be a contradiction on her part. Who was to say magic was even a natural thing on every world? She couldn't be sure, but she wanted to know. For herself and her benifet but mainly because it was another answer to a question. Something else she could add to what knew.
"Unless that's private? But the light seemed a bit bright for privacy needs"
She gave a light chuckle as she addressed the older woman. A young girl out in the middle of nowhere running into a woman with strange unfamiliar magic.
She couldn't help but indulge in her want for knowledge.

All the meanwhile, Lycoris had begun to force herself to her feet, ignoring her bodies’ protests and the fervent burning from within her legs – an after-effect of the newly regenerated cells. While fully functional, they were notably more sensitive to stimuli, a byproduct of the forcibly renewed nerve-endings – synapses that weren’t used to the rigors of firing and receiving signals. Her current posture, her knees bent slightly, elbows kept close to her chest with her balled fist level with the lowest point of her orbital bone, all of these factors would point out that she wasn’t a mage. [break][break] No, Lycoris preferred a more up close and personal approach, not to mention, she preferred to use her manadrives to augment her capabilities, rather then relying entirely on their diverse pool of spells – particularly because of the fact some drives backfire. Sadly, that was a lesson she knew entirely too well, she’d learned from her own hubris, admittingly a bit too late – she’d lost both of her hands during an experimentation for foregoing safety procedures. It was only once Lycoris’ gaze settled upon Astrisia’ diminutive stature, which judging by her size, she’d estimated she couldn’t be much older than twelve or so at most. A fact she’d ascerned with a quick scan, noting the lack of definitive secondary sex characteristics – in Astrisia’s case a lack of breasts. [break][break] Lycoris’ lips parted, a sigh of relief escaping from between her lips as she’d forced herself to relax. Her biomechanical fists unclenching, her fingers tentatively splaying outwards as they’d fell down towards her side. “No, you aren’t… you simply started me.” Lycoris confessed, her tone soft and gentle, highly uncharacteristic for her. Alas, this was for one reason and one reason alone, Lycoris had a particular soft spot for children. Truthfully, one of her biggest regrets was that she’d let PSICOM become her priority and had foregone most relations and never quite settled down. Not that she’d ever admit that aloud, she could already imagine Siuan’s reaction to that, it’d either be a knowing smirk, a bout of laughter or stoic silence – none of the above appealed to her. [break][break] “ “That’s quite alright…. It isn’t quite magic, its’ science… a manadrive to be exact.” Lycoris admitted, the only people capable of harnessing magic on her world were those that had been branded by a L’cie. Her own magic was nothing more than a crude manmade knock off, albeit, it was an effective one none the less. “Where are we?” Lycoris finally pressed. She certainly didn't the look you'd expect from a mage, that much was true. From her movements to her stance it gave that impression. But then when everything from piarates to a living mass of thorns had the potential to use magic on your world you tended not to jump to conclusions. Looking closer though she did notice something else of interest. Her hands were not flesh, but metal. The simple solution was that she was just wearing gauntlets. The movements she had seen so far though made her very much doubt that. It seemed more a part of her than a simple layer or armor. That would be a subject to ask later perhaps, it seemed more... A personal thing, at least to her. A good note was that she seemed to relax a bit in response to seeing her form. That would make things a bit easier. Frantic people wearn't... Her favorite to deal with to say the least.
At first she was going to apologise one more in response. But the older woman insisted her intrusion to be fine, even indulging her curiosity and telling her a bit about her 'magic' Science instead huh? Like the airships then? That didn't exactly invoke happy memories in the small mage, something shown in her facial expression. A frown crossed her face and the girl looked down for a moment before returning her gaze back to the solder. Nine the mess the subject did interest her. Technology that could imitate magic? Despite her worries she coudn't deny it's potential use. A 'Manadrive' she called it. She couldn't help but wonder just how similar the effects were. It seemed to heal the older woman just fine but... Her mind raced with thoughts. Was the process the same or different? Did the manadrives take energy from the body as normal magic did, or did it have it's own limited supply?
"I see... That is interesting... The most I've seen in my own world is the few airships in sky, one of which... Held some incredible destructive power, but it didn't have effects so close to spells... How is it done?"
Now that she had gotten a taste the girl couldn't help but continue to pursue the subject. Though her only experience with technology was the two airships in her own world she still held interest in this subject, though she was hesitant to trust it due to what experience she did have in her past.
Ah, so the woman wasn't from this world? Granted she did look out of place but then for all she knew she would as well. Astrisia didn't have a lot knowledge regarding it yet. As such the answers she gave to Lycoris was rather limited.
"In the middle of a forest, from what I can see. Pretty big one... Though I did see something of civilization a ways off while I was walking around"
So they were both outsiders huh? It might be of benifet to stay with her then, well assuming she had any intention of traveling with someone else.
"Astrisia, is my name... Yours?"
A greeting was a common first step, her parents taught her that. Plus she supposed traveling in a foreign world together held less risk than wandering around alone.

[nospaces] [attr="class","rdwne"] [attr="class","rdwnetop"] [attr="class","rdwnetoplyric"] GIVE YOUR IMMORTALITY TO ME [break] + I'LL SET YOU UP AGAINST THE STARS [attr="class","rdwnetop1"] [attr="class","rdwnetop2"] [attr="class","rdwnetop3"] [attr="class","rdwnepost"] Lycoris’ right hand drifted upwards from her side, the flesh-hued mechanized index finger absentmindedly tapping upon her bottom lip as she’d racked her brain, diligently searching for a simplified explanation to Astrisia’s inquiry. Unfortunately, the budding mage’s question was seemingly simple, yet it was arguably complex due to its’ inherent nature. Why? It was the very nature of a mana drive, if its’ basic programming and function wasn’t identical, the entirety of the process differed at a microscopic level. For example, the Cure Manadrive worked by stimulating damaged cells with minute electrical impulses, ones that caused said cells to enter a state of heightened activity – the rapid division and reunion creating the illusion of magic. Then there was the opposite side of the spectrum, Lycrois’ personally designed and outfitted manadrives. [break][break] Thus far, she had managed to work out three extensive equations, each one in direct correlation to some of their most rudimentary and outdated drives. She’d meticulously calculated how to catalyst the desired effect, enabling it to be used to augment her brawler fighting style – providing her with an added degree of versatility. Her hand drifted away from her face, her thumb and forefinger pressed together for a split second, a resounding snap echoing throughout the clearing as she’d experienced a moment of clarity. Lycoris coughed once, clearing her throat as she’d gathered her thoughts and prepared her dummied down explanation. [break][break] “Its’ a lot of mathematical equations, balancing of reactions, accounting for variables. The easiest way to explain it would be to use a Cure Manadrive as an example… My drive stimulates the damage cells with minute electrical impulses, sending them into a heightened state of activity. So instead of taking minutes, hours or even days, they are done in seconds – it is a bit taxing on the body though…” [break][break] Lycoris’ chest heaved as she inhaled sharply through her nostrils, lowering herself into a kneeling position so that she was closer to eye level with her newfound companion. She studied Astrisia’s face, searching for any indication of comprehension, preparing herself to have to give an alternate explanation. Besides, this was a much-welcomed distraction from her slew of other problems, specifically the location of her partner, Siaun. Astrisia’s input proved to be less than helpful, however, it did provide her with an important tidbit of information. There was indeed civilization nearby, a blessing in disguise, it meant she’d have access to the fundamental necessities of food, water and shelter. [break][break] Certainty, she could have relied upon her extensive training as Field Agent, regrettably, there was the inherent risk of miscategorizing the local flora and fauna – the risk of poisoning or incapacitating herself was within the realm of possibility. A series of events that she’d wish to avoid entirely, recalling a time she’d accidentally eaten a poisoned berry. Oh, not even her Manadrive had managed to ease gut-wrenching agony, those cramps truly had her believing that she was on the brink of death. To her surprise, the small girl before her possessed some manners, taking it upon herself to introduce herself before bombarding her with further questions. [break][break] “My name is Lycoris.” Lycoris stated simply, the corner of her lips twitching as they threatened to curl upwards into a seldom seen genuine smile.

The young mage waited paitently as the woman thought on how to explain her magic to her. She was in no rush after all. It took time to truly understand any subject worth pursuing took time. If every worlds magic or it's equivalent to it was this different well... Then their was a lot to learn. That was something she did like. Though she was concerned as to what the technology's use was meant for, her interest in how it worked pushed her more. Something that was clear in how the younger girl listened intently to Lycoris as she gave her explanation. Her explanation did make sense to her. So it was similar... But different than normal magic. It did take energy from the body, but it seemed to do so in different ways than were common with magic, putting strain on the body itself rather than taking energy directly to power spells. It was interesting to her. Most wouldn't see the difference between the two, bit she could due to her own familairty with magic. It seemed the focus needed was also different in this way. Though very similar the one way used manadrives and this typical magic seemed different. For magic you needed knowledge of the spell along with practice and of course the Mana capacity to use the spell in question. This you seemed to needed. Even the way the two methods worked was different. Cure magic brought relief by healing and mending ones wounds, using ones energy to stitch them back together. It seemed the drive version instead forced the cells work overtime to heal faster. The differences were subtle yes, but I treating none the less. Lycoris had hrr complete attention as she explained how her drive worked, Astrisia only commenting once she finished. The mage gave a nod off understanding in response.
"Alike.... Yet different. That's the impression I get. A similar process but with different methods to get there... It makes me wonder how your drives would perform elemental magic"
Astrisia was younger than a lot of people traveling the worlds, her desire for knowledge however? It outdid even people much older than her. This was most true when it came to magic, or anything similar to the concept. It was her field and what wrought the most interest out of the young teen. After her explanation Lycoris introduced herself, returning the favor Astrisia herself had given. She gave a nod in response. She had no intention of staying in the forest herself. While it offered her the solitude she loved it didn't do anything for ether of her goals. The one bestowed by her elder or her own want for power, so that she could get yhe vengance she sought. For that she couldn't remain idle for to long.
"If you want... I could show the path I saw heading towards the area I mentioned before, assuming you don't want to just remain here in the forest"
She doubted it, but she wouldn't assume. For all she knew the older woman could desire to be a hermit, this could grant that wish if so.
Given what she had seen so far though, she highly doubted it.

[nospaces] [attr="class","rdwne"] [attr="class","rdwnetop"] [attr="class","rdwnetoplyric"] GIVE YOUR IMMORTALITY TO ME [break] + I'LL SET YOU UP AGAINST THE STARS [attr="class","rdwnetop1"] [attr="class","rdwnetop2"] [attr="class","rdwnetop3"] [attr="class","rdwnepost"] Lycoris’ personal understanding of the Manadrive’s unique semblance of magic was borderline innate; however, it hadn’t always been so – its’ current state was the culmination of hundred hours of devotion to achieving perfection. Subconsciously, Lycoris’ lips curved upwards into a pride-filled smirk as her mind wondered, reminiscing briefly upon first mission as a Research and Development Field Agent. She’d been tasked with studying a particular subspecies of Flan, taking meticulous notes and digital logs regarding its’ habits and behaviors. Of course, the most exhilarating moment had come when it’d engaged in a bout with a stray Behemoth. Its’ arcane might equalizing the vast difference in sheer physical strength, not to mention, its’ gelatinous nature negated its’ opponent’s advantage. [break][break] Alas, the entirety of her career hadn’t been quite as joyous. Lycoris had the displeasure of conducting a first-hand study of a handful of Fal’cie – the forsaken failures of Gran Pulse’ sovereign beings. She’d never permitted her mask to falter while in the presence of her colleagues, yet a part of her heart pitied those poor souls. In private, Lycoris had cursed the gods, believing that they’d corrupted so many and knowingly condemned them to a fate worse than Death. Yes, those very creatures she’d dubiously observed in search of the next breakthrough. Some of those had come at great costs, periodically, the Fal’Cie managed to break their restraints, negating the debilitating manadrives. [break][break] Those handful of experiences, they were still seared in the back of her mind. She’d never quite felt guilt, no, if anything she’d felt a sense of relief overtake her as she’d granted them eternal relief from their suffrage. Some would claim that made her a murderer, a sentiment that she’d disagreed with wholeheartedly, attributing her absolvent of guilt to the fact that any resemblance of humanity had been striped of them with the cruel passage of time. Astrisia’ musing forcibly corrected her train of cognizant thought, her fingers twitching eagerly as she’d prepared to display one of her personal mana drives to answer her question. [break][break] “It is far easier to show you that, due to the vast difference in each mana drive.”[break][break] Lycoris said as assumed a basic combat stance, her feet anchored to the ground about shoulder width apart, her knees bent ever-so and her fists held up in a boxer’s stance. Howling Tempest , Lycoris thought to herself as she’d activated the drive, a sudden burst of wind convalescing around her body. Its’ presence enabling her to deliver a trio of rapid punches, each one accompanied with a burst of air that grew in intensity with each punch. If she paid close enough attention, Astrisia might notice that on the side of her gauntlet, a faint circle could been seen that was gradually emptying out, it a counter that indicated how long it would be before the manadrive had recharged itself. [break][break] “That would be much appreciated.. I am curious, why is someone as young as you interested in magic?”

Something seemed to make the woman smile. Whether it was a memory or something they did was unclear to her. She supposed the reason didn't matter much though, if she found joy in something that was well enough for her. It seemed if nothing else she was more than happy to display the use if her drives, something Astrisia was grateful for. It made it far easier for her to learn. The more she knew the better. In general it was something she enjoyed, but now on her journey it also served to aid her. Manadrives held her intrest quite well in that regard. They replicated magic well from what she could tell. First the Curative drive healing her wounds and now this one producing wind. In this case she seemed to use the drive producing wind to enhance her physical attacks. The wind covered her body and empowered her fists. So the drives could be used for more than simple imitation of the spells themselves? Interesting.... She could see various uses for such a thing, most of which she could assume Lycoris already knew herself. It gave her ideas, things to look into. Ways to use her magic differently.
That being said the drives did seem to have a limit, though different than normal magic. Where as the 'real deal' so to speak took energy from the caster to perform them the manadrives seemed to have their own charge. Or that was what she assumed with her curious eye and watching Lycoris' gauntlet. It was something she didn't feel would lose her interest anytime so. The two methods were so close, to imitate magic so closely... Was a marvel. Though she had to wonder why. Were people on her world not capable of magic naturally? Did they lack magical power and thus, had to use these drives to compensate? She didn't know, but it was more thoughts for her to ponder, and Lycoris didn't seem to mind indulging her so far.
"Is their a reason you have to use these drives? Are people where your from incapable of magic in the natural way? I can only assume as such because it seems... Ineffective otherwise. No offense meant of course, those drives are defently impressive"
Her tone was calm, she meant no insult with what she said. At her core Astrisia was still a child. Because of that their were times she overlooked simple visual cues. Even easier when she didn't understand. She simply wanted to know the methods. How things fit together... Answers, she liked to have answers to the mysteries around her.
The young girl nodded, signaling for Lycoris to follow her a short way back and down a clear path. At the far end up this path one could make out the image of buildings behind the trees, a clear sign of what they were both looking for. As they began their walk Astrisia would frown at the question given before nodding and returning to her normal netural tone. Though their was a bit of venom behind her words not at Lycoris, but the subject itself.
"My father died in an attack on our town... I took up magic in an effort to protect my mom but... I failed, come the second attack she fell to... Now I just..."
She sighed a moment, her hands clutched at her side.
"I want the power to avenge them, to destroy the one responsible for their deaths.... I see that in magic. It's potential... I don't see a limit to what I can learn to do with it"
