Somewhere beneath a smattering of thick black locks of hair, Rinoa eyes fluttered open from a sleep that felt like it had been years long. Strangely she felt no pain, not even a headache. The first thing she smelled was the strong sweetness of wildflowers and tall grass. It was carried to her on a breeze that had obviously spent a great deal of time tossing her hair around.
Rinoa flattened her palms on either side of her face to lift herself up onto her arms and she could only stare in bewilderment at the vast pile of white feathers she'd just been lying in. The sun was pleasantly warm on her face as she looked around a bit to gain her bearings. A meadow peppered with pink and white wildflowers waved gleefully at her from all sides.
Drawing in a shaking breath, the young woman carefully got to her feet. "This place..." she knew it well... but she didn't see him anywhere. It seemed Rinoa was faced with a choice. She could wait here and keep the promise she made to him or she could start looking for him. An onslaught of questions hit her like a train car. How long had she been here and asleep for that matter? What...even happened to her in the first place? Was it possible that she'd hurt someone again? Were there soldiers looking for her here?
Though Rinoa was growing concerned, the breeze picked up for a moment and puffs of pollen and petals were blown free of her hair and her duster. Among them a single white feather caught her attention. She remembered this. Tears began to build in Rinoa's eyes as she reached out to catch that small white feather. Was he...coming to find her? If he came here...he'd find her. Waiting for him. The feather fluttered out of her hand and she stared down at it wordlessly. It wasn't until they were very near that she noticed the sound of approaching footsteps in the tall grass. She whipped around, her eyes wide.

Despite the warnings of an impending war, Leon had left Radiant Garden. This is what was most important to him. This is why he needed to come. He found himself wandering in the open fields near Edea's Orphanage, wandering for what seemed like ages. This is where they'd found themselves after the battle with Ultimecia, and it made a lot of sense for her to be here, waiting for him just as he had back then.
For three days and three nights Squall had stayed at the orphanage, positive that she would come here. He wasn't sure what it was that told him to stay, but he was one hundred percent sure that this is where she wanted him to come. After lunch on the fourth day, Squall had decided to wander through the field. Part of him thought that maybe he should scope out Balamb Garden or Deling City for her, but he didn't think she would go to either place without him. She might however return to Timber, so that may be a good place to check in. The Forrest Owls were hopeless and needed all the help they could get.
As Squall walked outside, staring into the vast field of pure white and golden yellow flowers, something caught his eye. Could it be...
He stepped forward slightly, into the open field as he saw a figure in a blue sweater rise, grabbing a feather as she looked around. ...Rinoa?
Squall leaned forward, stepping every so slightly toward her as he did. He stumbled through them as her face found recognition in his eyes. Is it really her?
He took another two steps forward, this time at a normal pace. The realization of her return had began to dawn on him, and he pushed himself toward her step by step. It is her.
Now, Squall turned into a full on sprint toward her. After all these years, it really was Rinoa back. He hadn't seen her at all since they'd teamed up working for Materia. He wasn't sure if she remembered that or not, but that wasn't important. She was home. He rushed towards, picking the long black haired woman up into his arms as soon as he was within reach of her. He didn't say anything, but held her tight into his own body. She's really back...

Squall. It was him. It was really him! Rinoa froze in the tall grass as a doe in the forest, wayward flower petals and feather down still trickling off of her hair and her clothes disturbed from her earlier movement. Those wide eyes on him began to fill with tears of joy. She just couldn't help it. There were so many times that he'd come to her just when she needed him to and again, he was here. Her hand had only enough time to lift and hesitate toward him. Her knees were already quaking as the rest of her threatened to buckle. His arms closed around her and her tears erupted as sobs into the side of his neck the moment her feet left the ground. She'd thrown her arms around the back of his neck and burrowed herself against him as close as she possibly could. "It, It's...really you. You're here..." she managed to wheeze in between her sobs. "Your hair is so long!" She managed to observe aloud and chuckle happily through her crying.
While it did occur to Rinoa that his hair growing out quite that much meant that it had been a while...how long she really didn't know. She wasn't actually even sure that she wanted to know. There was definitely a bit of fuzz in her mind. There were confusing scenes there, conversations with him, moments in places that she didn't really recognize and fights by his side that just seemed so far beyond her capabilities...but she was here and alive, and so was he, so that must have meant that everything went alright...or perhaps it was all just a dream. He'd help her figure it out. He was always so good at compartmentalizing what was important and what wasn't. Rinoa always found herself swept up in the thick of everything. She couldn't help but get involved in just about everything thrown at her, even if it was unwise of her to do so. "Squall..." She tried to steady herself against him but was still shaky, her eyes blurred from her tears. "My mind its...something's missing. I didn't hurt someone again?" There was a very real fear of this possibility in her expression and her voice. Rinoa was usually far too brave for her own good. Only the man before her had ever seen her truly terrified, and this power, this influence of the sorceress. That she could have possibly hurt someone was something that truly frightened her.

He still couldn't believe it. After all these years, Squall had finally found Rinoa again. She immediately dug her face into the side of his neck, throwing her weight into him. He didn't say anything as she expressed her joy and took in the observation that he'd changed slightly over the years. It was true that he'd let his hair grow out over time. He did find it odd that in all these years, she hadn't changed a bit. Actually, it added a whole extra layer to the mystery behind it all. Where had she been, anyway?
"I finally found you..You haven't changed at all.. It looks like you haven't aged a day."
Squall noticed Rinoa's legs begin to buckle, and he quickly picked her up by putting his left arm under her shoulder blades and used his right arm to scoop her up by her legs. It was apparent that she needed to rest, and that her body was in no shape to travel right now. As he did, he heard her say that her mind was fuzzy and that she thought she might have hurt someone else. That wasn't possible. Ultimecia was dead and, along with her, so was her ability to possess sorceresses. Although, that hadn't stopped Chaos and Spiritus for finding an incarnation of her to bring to their side.
"No, you've been missing since we fought Shinryu. ...I couldn't find you."
Squall was making his way back to the orphanage as he talked. He felt the grass and vibrant flowers crunch under his feet as he walked. He was going to lay her in one of the empty beds until she could move on her own. Edea and Cid were both away, but he didn't think they would mind if the pair rested here for a couple days. Squall would try to figure more out about what had happened to her and come up with a plan of action during the downtime.
"I don't think you hurt anyone. Ultimecia is gone."

Perhaps Rinoa ought to have been concerned by his assessment, the idea that she hadn't aged a day but she was just so swept up in the excitement of being reunited that she only smiled in response. It was that overwhelmed feeling that caused her to buckle and sag weak in his arms. Without hesitation, Squall scooped her up into his arms and started walking. To her question on the possibility that she might have hurt someone he told her confidently that she hadn't. She'd been missing since they'd fought Shinryu.
Rinoa's brow knitted together as flashed images assaulted her mind at that very name...but she didn't recognize it. These were indeed memories and very real ones at that, but it almost felt like they didn't belong to her or more like she was remembering events that took place in a dream. Dizzy, she let the side of her head fall against his chest and she breathed in the scent of his coat, also different. Similar, yes but different. As Squall treked through the wildflowers with her in his arms, Rinoa let her eyes drift to a peaceful close. She was content there. It felt like that was where she belonged.
He spoke again to her and she just listened to the timbre of his voice through his chest lulled by it. Ultimecia was gone. A sorceress who could move through time. Rinoa didn't voice that she wasn't convinced. Typically she wouldn't hesitate to question him, but she just wanted to be close to him a little longer before she started picking at his nerves.
After a bit she did manage to hum quietly up at him. "I'm okay. I can walk if you want to put me down." her hands that had long ago snaked around his neck, however, said differently. She was clinging to him, her fingers lost in the fur on his collar.

Leon quietly made his way toward the Orphanage with Rinoa in his arms. He felt warmth as she clung to him, and it wasn't just his body heat causing it. This reminded him of his walk to Esthar. That was a massively long walk he shared with Matron as he sought out a way to heal Rinoa from the Sorceress Ultimecia's hold over her. Of course, that only led to a boat load of more problems for Squall, but, eventually, they were able to overcome it.
This felt right.
As Squall crossed the threshold on the stone building, Rinoa finally spoke up. She stated that she was okay to walk on her own now. He looked at her with his scarred eyes for a moment before lowering her down to an upright position. He was extra careful, just in case her legs got wobbly again and she needed carried again.
"...You okay?"
He meant that in more ways than just physically. She had just showed up after years of being who knows where. He didn't say it, but it could have been something related to her sorceress powers. It scared him to think that another had arisen and could be responsible for this, but who could it have been. Had Ultimecia returned after the wars as well? He would have to answer that question sooner rather than later.

The cold shade of the crumbling stone building cast itself over the two of them as he crossed through the entryway with her. It was a disappointing notion but in the end, Squall did indeed put her down. She'd requested it afterall. It wasn't that she was actually cold, but Rinoa still had to suppress the urge to shiver in this dank place. She could tell that Squall was putting extra care into how he was setting her down and she smiled weakly. Normally she'd have picked on him a little. He was a trained soldier so he wasn't exactly 'careless' but 'gentle' was a word someone would have been hardpressed to attempt to describe him with. It was funny though. The both of them seemed to bring out qualities in eachother that didn't really exist elsewhere. In Squall's presence, Rinoa learned to become more cautious and really look before leaping.
Once he had her set down and on her feet before him, he gazed into her eyes, his face just riddled with concern as he asked if she was okay. She blinked and let her gaze slip away a moment thinking on it. "I don't know." she finally admitted. "I feel...scared. Just like I did on the Ragnarok. I don't know where its coming from, but its there." her eyes were starting to moisten. She couldn't even help it. Here he was with her again, and Rinoa already felt like something was transpiring. Like she would lose him again. He just looked so...different.

Squall had set down Rinoa, and listened intently after he asked her if she was ok. Apparently, she had felt panicked. Leon stayed silent for a moment, but his mind was racing. He was trying to figure out what it was that had her so worried. Only one thing had really came to mind, and it kind of made sense to him.
"It could be because you've been gone so long. Rinoa, its been several years since you disappeared..."
He didn't know how else to say it. Sure, he hadn't softened the blow of it by beating around the bush, but she needed to know it, and it made sense that she'd felt scared, because she could be going through the shock of reappearing after being gone so long. He'd have to keep a close eye on her just to be safe.
"...You should lay down. There's a lot that's happened that I need to tell you about."
Leon then walked to the nearby room, inside of which was a series of small beds. He sat on the edge of one and waited for Rinoa to join him. He would hopefully had talked her into resting, because he was sure she needed it after being through whatever it was she had experienced. He had no true idea where she'd been, but, if he could talk her into going back to Radiant Garden with him, he might be able to ask Merlin for advice.

Rinoa paused where she stood faltering the moment the words 'several years' left his lips. Several years? How many was 'several?' What did this mean...? Where was she? And why couldn't she remember anything? It seemed to her like maybe it was the perfect time to worry and fuss, but as he typically was, Squall was adamant that she rest and he even invited her to lay down right next to him while she did. He was probably trying to come up with a game plan, she realized. At least he'd be close to her. She hoped... There was a moment of uncertain fidgeting before she walked with him toward the indicated bed. Rinoa sat down on it's side a moment somewhere behind him and she pulled her knees up to her chin. He said he had a lot to tell her...and she wasn't sure how much she could handle at that moment.
With a soft inhale, Rinoa finally let herself lay back on the bed, the wrong way of course, but on their nonetheless. Her eyes remained on the back of his coat though. She wouldn't take her eyes off of him afraid that if she did, even for a moment, she'd find out this was all a dream. "Promise you won't leave without me?" How odd it felt to be drowsy after just waking up, but she was. She must have looked it or Squall probably wouldn't have been so insistent on her resting. She turned to her side facing his back where he remained on the foot of the bed. She scooted forward toward him until she was pretty much curled around his lower back behind him. If he glanced down he'd see her face on one side and her knees on the other. It didn't matter how, she just...needed to be close to him right then.
