Rina stepped forward from the shadow of the clocktower. It was a nice warm day in Twilight Town, but Rina wondered inside of her head if there was a time that it wasn’t warm. Every time she had visited the world it seemed to be in a perpetual state of sundown, so perhaps it was the same temperature as well. It was a strange, but beautiful place.
Rina tightened her backpack full of belongings on her shoulders and gripped the second bag she had in her hand. She hoped she’d be able to do some trade with the shops on this world, but she also wanted to stay here for a bit. Rina wanted to explore the glowing orange world and see if she could find something new to entertain her for a while.
As she began to walk down the stone cobbled hill, the various glass bottles and vials in her bag tinkled and clinked against each other. She could spot two or three different shops at the bottom of the incline and a smile lit up her face. Looks like she might have some business after all.

The sound of wheels grinding upon cobblestone accompanied a blur of blond hair and cargo pants zipping down the hill, weaving in and out of the languid foot traffic of upper Market Street with temerarious haste. Low brick terraces and the patios of sleepy cafes became improvised paths and jump-off points to the unsurprised displeasure of their minders. Ultimately this meandering descent of bobs and jumps curved into a cul-de-sac at the foot of the hill. Roxas spiraled his skateboard’s path for a few circumambulations to kill off some of the descent’s momentum before skidding to a stop. Reaching into his backpack the young man retrieved a bundle of letters bound with twine. The customary exchange of complaints about time versus pay ensued with a nearby shopkeeper, possessing the cheerfully ornery air of a ritual repeated weekly. A minute or two later and Roxas was passed a cluster of geometric yellow coins in exchange for the postal bundle, and deftly caught a water bottle tossed in for his trouble. He paused mid-glugging as a familiar face entered the corner of his eye. “Oh woah, Rina.” The knife-tactic healer from that library. “Hey!” Rina Croft

Rina had her back turned to the voice that spoke out to her. After making a deal with the merchant who had her attention, she turned quickly around to see a familiar face! “Roxas!? What are you doing here?” Even though it had been a few months, Rina’s memory of Roxas was crystal clear. How could she ever forget the sassy blonde-haired teen? She was glad to see him. She nodded goodbye to the merchant and rushed off to the boy, touching his shoulder gently. “What a small universe we must live in. I didn’t think our paths would ever cross again.” Rina laughed and shook her head. “What are the odds?” She took in Roxas’ skateboard and the backpack on his shoulder. He looked pretty comfortable and didn’t have the deer-in-the-headlights look that most tourists had. Perhaps this was his home? “Oh. Is this your home Roxas?”

“Yup,” affirmed Roxas with smirking brightness even as he stepped back just a tad from her touch, the unconscious instinct of an upbringing in an austere citadel where affection was sparing to non-existent and betrayal could lurk behind the most casual gesture. Hugs from Kairi were still kinna new, and shoulder shoving was a Lea and Xion thing. While he doubted the lady who’d fixed him up from book-slug melting (libraries were dangerous!) was suddenly in a stabby mood, the reflex was too ingrained to fight. Roxas’ social life had grown a bit since contentedly spending a whole year hanging out with same two people at the same spot every day, but not nearly fast enough to be stellar at this small-talk stuff. “Just finishing my rounds for work,” he explained, looking for something to say. Normally people from out-of-town that recognized him were there to kill him stone-cold dead. The prospect of non-murder based excited recognition was pretty unusual. Large cerulean eyes flicked over poultices and vials clinking like sloshing sleigh-bells of science in the couriers arms. “Are you stocking up for another contract?”

Rina noticed the slight movement that Roxas made away from her and Rina took a respectful step back herself. She understood the movement. Understood the weariness that came from years of being around untrustworthy characters. She should have known better. Rina didn’t like to be touched either, but lately she seemed to be starving for human contact. She had kept herself locked away for too long this time around.
As she adjusted the basket of merchandise in her arms she tilted her head to the side in thought. “Something like that. I haven’t been out on a mission like that in a while. Actually…I haven’t been out much at all.” Rina sucked in a deep breath and let it out slowly. “Had a lot going on at home.”
Rina shifted herself on her feet as an uncomfortable silence settled around them. “S-sorry. Didn’t mean to make this heavy.”

Roxas bore the silence more in thoughtfulness then any evident disquiet, pensiveness scrunching flaxen bows for a bit. Eventually it was the boy’s turn to close the distance a little. “It’s alright,” Roxas said softly, reaching out empty hands for her lighten to her physical load on. “Hey let me carry some.” Though a dismissive adolescent shrug accompanied the invitation, a small fleeting smile evinced that Roxas knew what weight she’d actually meant. He looked out over the sleeping thoroughfare below, all cobbled sandstone and sedate foot-traffic. Shopkeepers chatted idly with customers beneath shingled overhands or single crimson tarp storefronts. There was no rush in the ever-evening. With no nights to differentiate the hours they sort of just swam together in one great celestial stasis. Without the Station Clocktower, one’d be forgiven for wondering if time even existed here at all. Short of temper and quick on the draw, Roxas nevertheless found patience easier here. Most of the memories worth remembering had happened here, good and bad, It was home if anywhere could really be when you’d just kinna popped into half-existence one day. “Where’re you taking this stuff?”Rina Croft

Rina didn’t notice how stiff she had become, how tight her grip on the bottles was, and the whiteness of her knuckles. But when Roxas came forth it was like he had been a key to unlock all of the tension in her muscles. Rina relaxed and looked up at the boy gratefully as he offered to “lighten the load” that Rina carried. She smiled softly, a knowing smile, and headed over half of the things in her palms. She cleared her throat but spoke softly. “Thanks, Roxas…” Translation: Thank you for understanding my unspoken plight. Rina tilted her head in thought at the blonde’s most recent question. Where was she taking this stuff? She had no clue. She just sort of ended up here and automatically started to do what she did best. Sell stuff. “I…I have no freaking clue. I just hopped in the ship and picked a place that I hadn’t been to in a while. I have no destination. But I can’t go back home… I’ll probably die if I go back.” She wasn’t entirely being melodramatic with that statement. She truly dreaded to go home. She didn't have the strength to fight the demons that haunted her there. “You pick Roxas. Where should I go next?”
