Garnet’s heart pounded anxiously against her rib-cage, her silk-clad fingers trembled with palpable excitement as she’d tentatively ran the tips over the familiar crest of Tantalus’ affixed to the parcel that had arrived shortly after noon. Her head naturally craned in the direction of the nearest Knight of Pluto, uncertain how quickly he’d make his report to either Beatrix or Steiner. A disheartened sigh slipped from her lips, a phantom pain flaring up at the base of her skull as she’d recalled how furious those two had been after her last rendezvous within a certain charming rogue. Though to be fair, Garnet understood that neither had any objections with her beloved husband, albeit, they didn’t approve of the fact she’d snuck out of the Castle – a habit that had persisted over the past two years.
[break][break] Alexandria’s Queen feigned fatigue, a forced yawn slipped from between her lips as she’d simultaneously raised her forearms above her head to stretch out. "Weimar, I wish to return to my chambers." Garnet stated candidly, not bothering to await his response as she’d began to make her way down the meticulously maintained corridors of the Castle. Whenever she’d passed alongside someone, she gave a curt nod of her head, a polite smile, and a sincere greeting. A few moments later she had arrived at the towering snowy double doors that lead into her private chambers. She’d dismissed Weimar, temporarily relieving him of his duties as she’d stepped beyond the door’s threshold. The Queen offered one final wave as she’d tentatively pressed the doors shut. [break][break] Garnet’s brows furrowed together as she’d began to mentally count backwards from thirty, patiently awaiting until Weimar’s footsteps had long since lapsed into silence. Only then did she exhale, one hand pressing against her door as she’d turned to make her way to a small vanity in the corner of the room. It was there, she began to unfold the letter, breaking the wax seal with a slivery blade. Her mahogany eyes skimmed the letter’ content, not once, or twice but perhaps five times. Her husband had returned to Alexandria after yet another of his grand adventures – oh, how she envied him. While she continued to skim the letter, Garnet removed her silken gloves, taking out a handful of pins from her hair. [break][break] Once she’d removed all forms of ornamentation, Garnet reached up and absent-mindedly ran her fingers it as she’d smiled to herself – Zidane had suggested meeting at the towers. Such a place had great sentimental meaning to her, it wasn’t just where she’d met Zidane truly, but it was also where her journey had begun – her first taste of genuine freedom. Garnet stripped out her formal attire, relishing the ability to breathe comfortable. In her opinion, whom ever invented corsets was both a genius and a sick, sadistic man. Ignoring the slight breeze that wafted in from the balcony, her arms draped across her chest to support her bosom as perused one of her wardrobes. [break][break] She smiled as she’d stumbled upon a very familiar blouse with billowy sleeves. Garnet quickly dressed her out in the her adventuring attire, pleasantly surprised that it still complimented her silhouette – albeit a bit snug in what some would claim were the right places. She fidgeted with the familiar burgundy gloves and matching ankle-high boots, accentuating it with a choker and her favorite pendant. The last thing Garnet donned was a White Mage’s robe, however, if one inspected it closely enough, they’d notice that part of it was singed – thanks to a certain small Black Mage. Without further delay, Garnet waltzed towards the door to her chambers, pressing her ear flush against it as she’d listened for a second or two before sliding it open just wide enough for her to slip through. [break][break] Her lips remained set in a determined grin as she’d snuck through the Castle Ground, effortlessly recalling the numerous patrol routes as she’d dip around corners, duck behind furniture. She made a quick pit stop by the Alexandria’s Grand Kitchen, greeting one of its’ attendants with a sheepish grin. Said attendant took a moment to retrieve a wicker basket that was filled to the brim with an assortment of fruits, some cheeses, some finger food, two wine glasses and a bottle of fine wine. “Thank you for preparing this at such short notice, if you could keep this between us. I would be quite grateful.” Garnet assured them, pleased with the dismissive shake of their head. Garnet spared a glance over her shoulder, shocked to see a handful of Knights making their way in her direction. [break][break] She muttered a very unlady-like sentiment beneath her breathe as she’d gave one final curt bow before dancing through the bustling workers and escaping out one of the servant quarters’. A few minutes later, Garnet found herself at the top of one of Alexandria’ Castle many steepled towers. Garnet sat the basket down on the floor, casually approaching one of the overlooks where she leant out to view her Kingdom and its’ glory, pleased with the progress that they’d collectively made as a whole in the past two years – they’d recovered from Garland’s wraith in every physical way imaginable. Alas, the emotional scars still lingered beneath the surface and they would for centuries to come. Her head craned upwards so that she could gaze upon the heavens, standing beneath the same night sky that had stared it all. It is hard to believe, three years ago... it all started here. What would have happened if I had nevet met you?" [break][break]

Strange new worlds and the war within them. “Two years.”
Saying it outloud didn’t make it any less believable but it still rung true nonetheless. It had been three years since that night, when she had ventured towards the woods to inspect the odd rumors. She had found herself standing at the wood’s edge, staring into the darkness in an odd trance. Before she could even get her head on straight, her lieutenant had come rushing to tell her about the return of the Mist. Everything seemed like it had moved in fast forward after that, as she pulled the Knights of Pluto onto the Red Rose and set course for the Eifa Tree. The unexplainable feeling that urged her on had been more than correct, as they had arrived just in time to aid Steiner, Princess Garnet, Zidane and crew dive into the final battle with Kuja. She had been there to bear witness to the mighty explosion that she had first believed had wiped out everyone she cared about.
How wonderfully wrong she had been. She couldn’t help the small smile that tugged on her lips, turning her head downward so it wasn’t too obvious to those she walked by. She had expected a lot after everything settled down, the high point being her departure. She had settled that she needed to leave Alexandria long before the battles had gone quiet but it hadn’t made the pivotal moment any easier to stomach. It had been Steiner -- and only Steiner -- to keep her from leaving in shame. His words, his complete honesty of his feelings for her, had swayed her and melted her heart all the same. She had known in that moment that he was the man she would marry; the only one that had ever deserved such recognition.
Had she expected the Queen and the Rogue to end up together? It was obvious that there was a connection between them and they each wore their emotions on their sleeves. Zidane had seemed the type to flirt, to accompany a woman for a short amount of time and then disappear. He had shown himself a far better man than most assumed about him, even rising to a level where Steiner respected him. She supposed in a way she knew, at some level, that there would be a deeper connection between Garnet and Zidane. After all, they had gone through levels of torment and pain that were unfathomable to other couples. That kind of trauma had a way of knotting people together. It was quite humorous to title the man as King Zidane. He probably despised that kind of recognition.
She was almost too lost in her thoughts to notice Weimar talking to Haagen by the waterfront. Beatrix had been walking her normal route, one that always took her by the river that separated the castle grounds from the rest of the city. And while she was not the Captain of the Knights of Pluto, she knew her husband’s assignment routine and knew that Weimar wasn’t meant to be anywhere near her. He was meant to be serving the Queen directly. She shifted her path, bringing her directly in front of the chattering Knights.
“Weimar,” she stated simply.
Her words caught his attention quickly and he snapped to attention instantly, smacking his hand loudly against his helmet. She could see the pain etched in his face. “G-General!”
“Why are you not posted by the Queen? Did Her Majesty or Captain Steiner dismiss you or reassign your position?” Her tone was firm but not cruel; she was more curious than anything else.
“No ma’am. Her Majesty expressed that she wished to return to her chambers and seemed fairly exhausted. Once I returned her there, I came looking for the Captain in hopes of reassignment,” he relayed to her, still standing at position.
So soon? Beatrix glanced at the sky, her brow slightly furrowed. Perhaps her duties had worn on her a bit more than normal. Perhaps she should check in with her, to assure that she was feeling well. “I shall go and check on the Queen. I believe Captain Steiner is on patrol near the garden.”
“Thank you, General,” Weimar thanked her. That seemed to be the end of it and Beatrix began to turn away to head towards the castle entrance when he spoke up again, his conversation redirected at Haagen. “It was odd though; she seemed perfectly fine until she got that note.”
That stopped the General in her spot. She spun back around to face the man, her single eye narrowed. “Note? What note are you talking about?”
Weimar seized up again, apparently surprised by her addressing him again. “Uh… the Queen received a parcel and after that, she wished to go back to her chambers.” He paused, cocking his head slightly. “Is that odd?”
Not again. She didn’t even wait to answer him, turning back and breaking into a sprint towards the castle. She’d nearly forgotten about Zidane’s wily attempts to get the Queen away from her protectors. And Queen Garnet, bless her heart, just couldn’t resist taking on the challenge and sneaking out of the castle. Seeing her husband was one thing but shaking off her protection was unacceptable. She would have to try and stop her before she got outside the castle walls.
And if she had already gotten out… well it was up to her to bring her back.

Getting to Alexandria, though much easier these days, was always a fight! While Tantalus did not travel the capitals stealing treasure or kidnapping princesses they were still a Theater Troupe and a busy one. Baku meant it when he said there weren't many treasures left in the world to steal and his lay under house arrest in Alexandria Castle after their last daring escape. It wasn't to say that their friends did not accept their meetings, but when they did so on the time and business of others the lectures they received could tantamount to torture. He was sure his knees were going to bleed while he was knelt in front of Baku, a stack of books on his head while the old fart lectured him on wasting his time and money. He was supposed to show up for a set last time, the play held in Ruby's Theater, but he was a now show having decided to play hooky and flee with a certain young princess that he was sure got an earful too!And it wasn't as if Zidane learned... sure he may not ditch a show again but practice was a whole other matter."Get your tail back here Zidane or ah'll whip it so hard you'll need a prosthetic! Ahh aache!!" The boisterous bat sneezed as the speedy thief hit the ground running, jumping from the stage and stripping the costume off in a well trained second! After all when working on stage you had to be able to slip in and out of costume at a moment's notice between sets. It also came handy when you had to sneak into a Castle's tower and borrow their princesses... Zidane grinned and turned back to spit out his tongue but went wide eyed as a saber came flying toward him and hit smack, embedding into the nearby plank. The thief nearly screeched and slid under it before he smashed face first into it."Use props you bastard!!" Zidane shouted as he ran down the aisle of seats. "Normal troupes use props!!""Get him!" Baku pointed, sending the Nero Brothers piling on the rapscallion. The pile of extras blinked as the pile squirmed. From the writhing tower of flesh and leather Marcus' head popped out, the man gasping for air. The Nero Brothers looked at Baku who was laughing at this point. "Let the little shit go -- he'll get extra practice later..."With that Zidane would manage to escape from the Prima Vista who had been posted at Treno for a show up and coming in a few days. Zidane raced outside the city only to find Choco waiting. "Heya fella, wanna visit Dagger?" The bird was more than happy at the prospect of it, she was always nice and fed him Regean Peppers, his favorite!" And off the pair went over Popo's Heights! Dismounting Choco he would take him to Alexandria's stables. He'd be looked out for, the stablemaster having taken a liking to the well behaved bird. Talkative and noisy just like his owner, the bird was a delight for the elderly stablemaster! Alexandria was different. Much of the construction had finished, the damage done but a memory in the minds of her citizens. As he strolled along with his hands in his pockets he could clearly advocate how much as changed, but it wasn't something he easily accepted. It still made him fluster when he saw her face. His heart jumped to the sound of her voice. He never thought he was the sort that could really love or be loved. It was always a feeling in the back of his mind because he never felt at home on Gaia, at least not until his last journey from home. And after his biggest adventure well -- he was ... sure this was home. He would finally make it to the castle grounds, but getting in was not an easy task for the regular folk. He walked over to the boat and waved at the familiar boatswain. "Heya, think I can get across?"She had a nervous expression. "I'm sorry Zidane, the last time we were given explicit intruc--""Aww come on, please? I even brought flowers this time." he held out a lavender stalk and grinned, causing the boatswain to laugh a bit. "You're rather absurd, but I feel as if the Queen would enjoy if regardless of your lack of knowledge of flowers..." She motioned for him to get on.The cheeky thief hopped on and chatted to her as they rode by. He'd promise to grab her something from the kitchen on his way out this time for all her hard work and he dashed off into the courtyard. It wasn't hard to hear the Pluto idiots patrolling, Their rusty, clanking armor was louder than a Zaghnol during breeding season. he facepalmed at his own mental comparison and shook his head. Nevermind that now. Ducking behind some bushes the rogue became giddy at the idea of outwitting these overzealous knights and climbing the tower. He blinked and looked up."Climb it, huh?" He reached out, touching his gloved hand against the stone, the grout not very deep but there were some vines growing along the side. he glanced back and smirked before he would begin his journey to the top of the tower. He'd shuffle and shimmy with ease, though a few missteps had caused his heart to skip. "Freya makes this look easy..." He groaned as though me may be nimble and quick: sheer climbs were not his expertise. Eventually he made it to the tower and sighed. he seated himself on the edge, legs hanging out into the sky. He was pretty winded from the climb, more than a few times he would see his short life racing over his thoughts, especially with that last slip. Zidane was not sure if Dagger even got his parcel and, to be honest, he started to wonder if it was cheesy. He always made fun of nobles who sent those sorts of packages to their mistresses, finding the arrogance depleting. And yet now that he was in their shoes, having someone they wanted to keep on impressing, well..."Shit, I feel so lame." He slumped forward, grimacing at his own actions. "Maybe she'll have a good giggle, at the very least..." He thought aloud. He felt movement behind him, but none of those knights, well except Breireicht... that guy was an exercising nut and regularly challenged the towers for exercise. They met maybe once or twice and had brief conversations, but they always ended up at keeping fit and healthy. He was a swell guy, just really focused on training. Zidane hated training, despite fully recognizing its value. He turned around almost expecting the Pluto Knight because at this point he had convinced himself his letter was just too cheesy to willingly accept at face value. Ugh! Why did he let Cinna convince him to write it?! Bastard, he'll beat the shit out of him la--"D-Dagger?!" He stammered and nearly slipped off the edge. Gods why?! He quickly pulled himself up and hopped onto the ledge so his feet were on the ground. "Dagger!" he said more confidently. Shit, say something. He was getting worked up. Look at her standing there! That cute face, that lovely bustier! His tail was knotting up as it curled about. One could almost think it taking a heart, like shape but there was little time to concern over the way his tail moved because it had been forewarning of his next action. He leapt off the edge and swooped in to try and pick her up to twirl and pull her into a hug. What would have happened?I would have died without you.He tried really hard to hold it all in but how long has it been? Days? Weeks? After being off planet for so many months he had nearly fell to pieces when he came back home! He cried into her for what felt like hours. Heartless. Deserts. Dragons and Darkness! All he wanted to do was find his friends and make his way back home. It made being away from her ever the more unbearable. He frowned and tried to squeeze her tight, his heart rattling in his chest as a sniffle burst from his chest, the tears fought back this time. "Baku is going to kick my ass when I get home..." He pulled back and rubbed the back of his arm over his nose, sniffling a bit more before he looked down at the basket in question. "Ooh, whatcha got there? A treat for me cutie?" he grinned, tail swaying to and fro in anticipation.
He reached into his vest and held out a single lavender sprig for his Queen. "I brought ya this... figured you'd like it." Because it seemed a bit insincere to bring her a rose... MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

[attr="class","kiminoright"] Alexandria’s Queen felt her heart as it’d begun to beat erratically within her chest, each palpation so frenzied that it almost hurt. Such sensations weren’t foreign to her, no, she experienced it nearly every time that she stood before the Kings and Queens of allied nations, not to mention, every time she received a visit from a certain monkey-tailed rogue. Her nervousness only compounded with each passing second as she’d purposefully made her way towards the opposite of the tower, investigating the all-to-familiar muttering. Her lips curved upwards into an elated grin, her vision blurring as tears began to well up, threatening to streak down her cheek at a moment’s notice. In her excitement, Garnet’s approach quickened and as such began to produce an audible click as her wedged boots snapped down against the cobblestone. [break][break]
Evidently, that minute sound was enough to alert Zidane to her presence entirely, his confused and excited utterance of her name followed tragically by him nearly teetering off the ledge. Her heart seized in her chest, Garnet’s hood falling back as she’d sprinted forward, her hand extended outwards as she’d recited memorized scriptures with mechanical precision. With each emergent step, Garnet’s silhouette grew increasingly weightless until she’d even begun to defy the very laws of physics, her robe-clad body drifting mere centimeters from the ground as she’d imbued herself with Float . Why had she done so? Well, much to Steiner and Beatrix’s chagrin, Garnet was entirely prepared to dive over the edge to prevent Zidane from becoming a stain on the pavement. [break][break]
Fortunately, Zidane’s dexterous nature had saved his life, his hands catching on the edge of the rough stone. She ignored the pain that radiated through her body as she’d thrown herself against the stone, desperately trying to grab onto Zidane’s exposed wrist. However, the Thief successfully managed to hoist himself back to safety, thank Alexander. Alas, Zidane’s misguided display had reduced the once regal Queen into an emotional mess, her cheeks marred by the tears that had streaked down. Hell, Garnet’s breathes came out in short, erratic bursts, her figure visibly trembling as she’d attempted to steel her resolve. This man would undoubtedly be the death of her, although, Garnet had no doubts that she’d pass to the beyond either an old happy woman or a young emotional mess – moments like this had her betting on the latter. [break][break] Such thoughts were brushed aside entirely as Zidane leapt from his elevated perch, his arms finding their way around her waist. Despite the number of times, Zidane had performed such maneuvers, it still caused Garnet’s cheeks to flush red and caused her to advert her gaze. During the entirety of Zidane’s twirl, Garnet had buried her face in her robes, hurriedly using the sleeves and hood to wipe away her tears. She stopped in the midst of doing so as she felt Zidane’s grip around her tighten, momentarily robbing her lungs of air. Garnet’s lips remained set in an enamored grin, momentarily losing herself in Zidane entirely. Yes, she loved the way that he smelt, Garnet honestly couldn’t describe what it was, but in her mind, she’d always associated it with freedom. [break][break]
Her tension faded away as she’d savoured Zidane’s warmth, one of her hands drifting away from her face to rest gently on his chest. Despite the vest he’d worn, Garnet could feel the frantic beating of his heart, followed shortly after by the emotional stutter. Her expression softening as she heard his muted sniffling, Garnet’s arms instinctively weaving themselves behind his neck, her hands grasping her own forearm as she’d pulled Zidane marginally closer to her bosom. Her head rested softly on the crock of his neck, a feat made possible by the fact Zidane and her magick synergistically negated their height difference. Garnet reluctantly let herself drift backwards as Zidane began to pull back to rub is nose in the crock of his arm. [break][break]
Zidane’s inquisitive, child-like nature threatening to rip a heart-warming giggle from her chest as he’d inquired about the contents of the basic. Only, Zidane would have a near death experience and be curious about the content of a basket. To her surprise, Zidane reached into his vest and extracted a singular prig of lavender, offering it to her. Garnet let her arms go lax and fall back towards her side as she’d reached up to grasp the sprig, smiling as she brought it to her nose. It smelt heavenly, most women would have preferred roses and lilies, however, Garnet appreciated the sentiment none the less. Just as the last words left Zidane’s lips, Garnet’s one hand drifted back up to tenderly stroke the side of his face, her own cheeks flushed as her hand drifted to the back of his neck. [break][break]
In a rather unlady-like display, Garnet gripped the back of Zidane’s neck as she’d leant up to gently place a kiss on his lips. Her own cheeks flushed as she’d pulled away. Maybe it is", Garnet answered playfully, pausing to gather her thoughts. "Why is Baku mad this time? What manner of mischief did my husband manage this time?" Dagger pressed, not entirely certain she wanted to know the answer - Zidane's knack for mischief had undoubtedly shaved a couple years off her life. [break][break]

Strange new worlds and the war within them. Why had she expected things to be different?
Being taken away from Alexandria, away from Gaia, had given Beatrix a lot of perspective in terms of the size of their world. While it had seemingly been accidental, she had managed to find her way back home -- though that had come on the reliance of some old allies. How fortunate that it had been that Zidane and Vivi had the means and method to travel worlds, what with the former's vessel. Despite their rather brash and unsavory meeting in Twilight Town, she had managed to procure a spot back home -- back to her husband, the queen she served and the country she loved. Despite his jovial and tricky nature, the thief had proven once again to be a good friend and ally. She owed him for his deeds.
But that debt was not indicative of free reign to take the Queen whenever and wherever he wanted. There were rules and regulations that could not be surmounted by any single person, even the husband of the Queen. Yet they continued to push the envelope; finding new and unique ways to sneak around and experience the thrill of the years past. Couldn't they just be satisfied with what they had?
Are you? A haunting question rose up in the back of her mind, seemingly coming out of the recesses of her thoughts. She shook it away almost as quickly as it came as she bolted down the hallway towards the Queen's royal chambers. As she came to a stop before Garnet's door, she leaned close to it, pressing her ear against the wooden frame. "Your highness, are you decent?" She called out, putting her most professional tone of voice forward. She waited -- for a lifetime it seemed -- in hopes that her suspicions had been wrong. But as no voice replied back and there was no shuffling of movement, she knew she had been right all along. She clicked open the door and moved inside the room, finding it completely empty. "Dammit Zidane..." she muttered as she spun back and marched towards to the hallway.
This wasn't their first escape from the castle, seemingly capable of finding every nook and cranny to slip through. Beatrix had been proud of the people of Alexandria for building the castle back to what it was but with that came all the hidden routes and tunnels. Plus the Queen had a knack for noticing patterns, so no doubt she knew how to get by all the patrols in and around the castle. Slowly the General began to walk, her brain wracked to the brink on all the possibilities. Her path brought her to the doors of the balcony, that grand thrust that was used for formal proclamations and occasions. She eased herself to the edge with her footfalls, stopping right before the stone railing as her eye snaked over the grounds before her. Had she taken a moment to look skyward, she would have glimpsed the bustling of movement on one of the tall steeple that was Garnet moving to save her husband.
Could they be hiding in some young couple, giggling to themselves and giddy at their own wit? She could only picture the two of them leaning up against some bush as Kohel and Laudo walked right by, the latter talking about his most recent scribbling. Of course Beatrix wasn't a completely cold woman and did see the humor and appeal to just shirking duties -- hadn't she done that while she was gone? Even if it was unintentional, she hadn't been present to protect the Queen and had, on more than one occasion, allowed herself a moment of relaxation and pleasure rather than scampering to get back here. She knew if it had been Steiner that had been taken, he would have been losing his mind like a Chocobo in a pen.
She shook away the smile before it came out, knowing now was not the time for such pleasantries. She would search this castle from top to bottom and, after that, the city itself.
Best to start with the first floor then. She turned away, just barely missing the sight of the Queen and Zidane up on the tower finally reconnecting. She eased the door shut behind her, the two lovers now out of sight and even further from her investigative eye.

Zidane hadn't expected Dagger to react as she did to his slip, but in truth he should have expected this because that was just the kind of person she had always been. Even in their first meeting she had raced down the stairs with enough skill and speed to elude the thief for several minutes. It was a chase like nothing he's ever been privvy too. In typical fashion it was the rogue zigzagging and evading his pursuers. Dagger had made joke of his own displays and leapt from the top of the tower without even thinking twice. No... she had smiled down at him with that warm, disarming face of hers. Her billowing sleeves had hid the card she carried. Zidane had fallen right into it. His hackles rose at the brass this woman had. It had only made his drive to catch her all the harder.
And her continued evasion of each and every one of his advancements had turned into self doubt, concern, worry and eventually it looped back to the first time he saw her face leaving the balcony of her seat.
His mind traveled to that day frequently, ever since he returned. He held her for quite some time as he mulled over what it was about her that attracted his nigh insatiable appetite so. In truth it was her everything. Her warm scent, her gentle touches, her sharp wit and let us not forget that body! While he was allowed a few shallow indulgences it was difficult to ignore them as she was pressed against him in such a way.
"Pretty considerate of me, huh?" That shit-eating grin plastered on his face was the rogue's pride filling his ego with sand and banter. But when her hand reached up to touch his face his thoughts shattered. That cocky grin had faded into a warm smile, his cheeks flushing like a child being praised by his mother. Unaware the genome pressed his face into a touch, like a Chocobo seeking affection. When her fingers brushed back against his neck, her hand warming it with its touch his tail had puffed up in delight, the limb lashing about haphazardly, unable to contain the glee spilling from the wild thief; he was tamed by the Queen's gentle, loving touches. He felt as if he was being inspected though, the way she touched and felt about his form searching for signs of any trauma he was known to incur while away, and in, her company. It made him giggle, stifled by the sniffling of his bottled up emotions. He was never good at hiding them, wearing his heart on his sleeve as he did. He was near ready to burst having seen her there, the edges of his tail a faint pink hue before dusting away like a brief fall of snow at the start of winter."W-what was that f--" But before his words could carry from his throat he would be pulled forward with surprising strength and ease, given Dagger's leverage. "Mmph!" His mouth touched her own, his face steaming as red as Cinna's own nose. "B-buh?" Words had become a faint memory, the intimate touch shredding all thought from his mind.He stared at her, looking into those dark eyes as he tried to regain access to his cognitive thought. This was not their first kiss, of course, nor was it to be their last, but he was vulnerable. His mind already dancing with whispers of her name and his senses swimming in her presence. Had it been so long since he could hear her voice...? See her face?Down below a pair of prints were dug into the mud amidst some bushes, the frequently watered garden allowed the lush plantlife to remain such in its time of recuperation as new roots had to find place where old ones were rend by war and disaster. A creeping vine grew its way into the freshly laid mortar, brick not yet strengthened by age to fend from the parasitic plant. Some had been pulled from its binding, suffering the excess weight of a fleet footed fool. A few vertical prints and muddy splats along the wall gave life evidence to someone's recent escapades."Husband?!" Zidane slouched forward, the loudness of his own voice catching him off guard in the empty, quiet tower. "H-husband?" Yes it had all been a ploy to get through Conde Peite to the Ilfa tree and Zidane had made light of the union only for Dagger to be the voice of reason among them. He had gotten a bit ahead of himself, to be sure but now for her to address it so casually it flummoxed the rowdy rogue. He moved to rub the back of his head before reaching his left hand to take her own. He was gentle in his actions, eyes cast away like a whelp caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He was ... did she really? He looked to her than down to her hand. He grasped it in his hands, pulling it up so he could kiss the back of it. He was not quite sure of her reaction, if she would even let him, but he would kiss it again and pull the maiden into a hug as he slowly leaned her against the cold, stone walls."Dagger..." He looked down into her eyes. "...so, does that mean you've finally accepted my marriage proposal properly? Are we going to tell Steiner he missed the wedding?" The air of awkwardness was filled by Zidane's wit his mouth moving to come down over hers again as he leaned against her form with the intent to trap his beloved against him and a hard place. Had she allowed such he would move to bury his face into her neck and delicately paint it with kisses. "My beloved..." He hated cheesy titles, gaudy pet names but ... that was his true feeling towards her.She was not just his girlfriend... or wife... or friend. She was his beloved, the person he literally tore through the heavens for and cast men into hell to protect. She had ... done the very same for him and no other title befit his Queen. He would touch his lips to her neck with every thought. His dearest. Most precious. Most adored and treasured dearest...love❤️.Absentminded, lost in his reverie of praise for the young woman: the rouge hadn't the presence of mind to watch his surroundings. In that moment his hand came upon a loose brick of which his weight pushed into. With a click, and slide the wall behind the pair would slide open and they would find themselves on a ride down a floor below behind one of the walls. Zidane, thinking quick, made attempt to pull Dagger to his form so he would take the brunt of the scraping brush of the stone against his flesh. Upon hitting the bottom a heavy silence fell over everything. What would break it was the soft sound of something moving in the distance, scraping against the cobblestone. MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

[break][break]
The Queen of Alexandria’s relationship with the Tantalus rogue had a dynamic all its’ own, one that defied most theatrical pigeonholes. At first unassuming glance, it was easy to surmise that the monkey-tailed Genome had stolen her heart, although, at certain points in their relationship – Garnet would argue that the opposite was true. One such incident was their first encounter, Garnet had led Zidane on a wild-chase throughout the Castle grounds, a playful smirk etched on her features beneath the mage’s cowl. No doubt, her merry laughter would have echoed throughout the pristine halls, if it weren’t for the fact she was attempting to maintain a semblance of secrecy, not to mention, Garnet had been struggling to catch her breathe for most of their elusive game of cat and mouse. [break][break]
Her heart ached fondly as she’d vividly recalled the roar of the band in the background, Steiner’s shouts in the distance as she’d climbed atop the very cornerstone that Zidane had almost plummeted off. The dramatic pause between the two as she’d stood there with her fingers interwoven behind her back, her lips set in an amused smile as she’d stared down at Zidane before leaning backwards, throwing herself off the edge without a care in the world. Zidane’s panicked expression was undoubtedly priceless, his bright aquamarine eyes widened so much that they’d resembled a tea-saucer. All the meanwhile, her own eyes were wide with unspoken merriment, freedom’s elusive taste heavy on her palette as she’d smiled back as she’d soared through the air. [break][break]
Garnet harbored no delusion, if Zidane had been a lesser thief, chances were he’d painstakingly would have admitted defeat at her hand. Fortunately, the man she’d affectionately called her husband was without equal when it came to his tenacity – Steiner’s devotion to his duties came in at a close second. Albeit, the latter was much to the unconventional Queen’s chagrin. Truthfully, Garnet viewed Steiner in a similar capacity to her deceased father, without question, Steiner stood dutifully at her side when no one else had. Garnet reasoned that it was for that very reason, she’d went to questionable lengths to purposely defy him each and every time he’d tried to commandeer her freedoms and select liberties. Even now, Garnet could hear his roaring complaints about her sneaking away for an evening with her admittingly charming husband. [break][break]
Zidane’s words came across muted, a dull static in her afterthoughts as she’d enticed him closer, her advanced starting with a simple hand pressed tenderly upon his cheek. Despite Zidane’s less than savory uprising, his words and body were undoubtedly honest – it spoke volumes even when he remained silent. Garnet’s heart swelled with elation as she’d felt Zidane press himself further into her embrace, closing the near non-existent distance between them. She caught a glimpse of Zidane’s tail as it’d puffed upwards, whipping back and forth excitedly and without restraint. It was laughable, even at times like this, Garnet found herself subtly recalling lessons with Doctor Tot? What in particular one might ask? Currently, it was his lecture about how the key to winning a game of chess was domineering the metaphorical battlefield, setting the pace for the opponent to fall into line. [break][break]
How did that pertain to the present? Love was without question, one of the most atrocious battlefields that existed – its’ grievous wounds invisible to both sides. In his absence, Garnet had acquired numerous scars upon her heart, each day that he was absent carved a niche in the tender flesh. How often were there nights when she’d stood upon her balcony in during twilights’ hours, smiling fondly as she’d re-read letters while her tears stained the well-worn parchments. Despite her own flustered cheeks, Garnet’s lips curved upwards into that characteristic mischievous smirk as she’d admired the aftermath of her perfectly executed surprise attack. An audible giggle slipping from between her lips as Zidane’s face turned numerous shades of red, one reminding her of Cinna’s bulbous tomato like nose. [break][break]
Garnet’s mahogany eyes widened in surprise as Zidane’s shout resonated thought the borderline deathly still courtyard below. Garnet harbored no delusion that wondering the courtyards below hadn’t heard him. Her momentarily shifting from her beloved, her head craning slightly over her shoulder to leer down at the courtyard below, diligently searching for onlookers. Alas, her search didn’t yield any tangible results as she’d returned her undivided attention to Zidane the second time he’d uttered that word. To her surprise, Zidane’s left hand tenderly encapsulated her own, pressing timid kisses upon the back of her hand as he’d adverted his gaze. An audible gasp of surprise slipped from between Garnet’s lips as Zidane’s arms encircled her once again pulling her tight before pressing her against the cold-stone walls.[break][break]
“Silly Zidane, do you really need to ask that?”She’d replied with her mischievous grin; her own cheeks flushed a vibrant crimson. “Perhaps, we shouldn’t tell him that, Eidolons know his heart might fail him.” She said in an equal mixture of seriousness and lightheartedness. Garnet felt Zidane’s feathery touch upon her lips, its’ transition to her neck causing an audible hitch in her breathe, her once even breathing instantly sounded labored. If it weren’t for the haze of lust and longing clouding her mind, Garnet might have remembered that the top of the tower was outfitted with a singular trap door – its’ purpose to either elude captors or send them toppling downwards into Alexandria’s monster-filled undergrounds. Garnet’s eyes widened in silent horror as she heard the audible click, an unlady like screech elicited from her lips as once more she felt weightless, her body falling backwards, darkness encompassing her and her lover as the wall snapped back into place. [break][break] In the darkness, Garnet felt Zidane’s hands upon her body, his grip tightening as he’d rotated them so that he’d bore the brunt of the damage on the way down. Garnet’s eyes fluttered shut as she’d began to channel divine magick, a scarcely visible wisp of hoary mist extruded from her body. It rapidly spiraled outwards, encircling the duo as she’d invoked Protect , in hopes of dampening the impact even further. Meanwhile, within the Castle a number of the Alexandrian Guards had mobilized, ushered into motion by the alarm triggered by Zidane activating the hidden passage – it was a safety feature meant to rally the tropes to either their Queen, a survivor, or a potential enemy. It wouldn’t take long for one of them to hunt down Beatrix and inform them that someone was likely trapped beneath the Castle with the dreadful Bandersnatchs. [break][break] Regardless if the esteemed warrior insisted on going alone, she would find that she had an entourage of three woman outfitted with small circular shields, a flamberge cutlass, and their smattering of lightweight armor. Unbeknownst to all, Zidane and Garnet were rapidly approaching the end of their unplanned descent. When they’d landed, Garnet let out a pained groan, disoriented from the rapid descent and its’ sharp turns in the dark. However, her attention immediately turned to Zidane, whom she could only see due to the illumination cast by a series of gas-powered candles that lined the walls. Ignoring her bodies’ protests, Garnet crawled across the distance between them, tentatively pressing her hands to Zidane’s neck as she’d checked for a pulse, an audible sigh of relief escaped her in the form of a panicked sob – Zidane was very much still alive. [break][break] Once more, Garnet felt the energies within her shift at her command, a warmth radiating throughout her body, gathering in her finger tips as she’d pressed her hand to her husband’s chest. Zidane would likely feel the curative energy seeping into his body, its’ presence made known by the pleasant warmth and the ease of his aches and pains. For the time being, Garnet had elected to use a simple Cure spell, electing to conserve her energy for the time being. A low growl emanated from within the shadows, its’ presence joined by a symphony of its’ brethren’s cries. Garnet’s hand gripped the cloth of Zidane’s vest, her heart plummeting into the pit of her stomach as she was forcibly reminded of the fact that those creatures ran wild acting as the unseen protectors of the Castle – only problem is that they failed to identify friend or foe and consumed all without discrimination. [break][break]
Garnet began to lower herself closer to Zidane’s ear, quietly whispering in her lover’s ear.“Zidane… we need to go now.” Garnet’s tone alone was enough to surmise that this wasn’t a matter up for debate. Her thoughts were punctuated by the sound of leather feet padding against the ground, leisurely inching its’ way in their direction, the faintest hint of one of the creature’ disgustingly long tongues visible as it’d snaked from the shadows.

Strange new worlds and the war within them. Where could she even begin to start looking? Garnet knew the castle just as well as she did; even Zidane had traversed through some of the more secret passages at this point. Finding them out was essentially a game of elimination – she had to make sure she checked off areas completely before moving onto the next place. It would slow her down, absolutely, but it was better to fall behind and play catch up than to overlook them and be left searching blindly. One step at a time.
Weimar was the last to see the Queen, having escorted her to her room. If Garnet didn’t want to be seen by the guards, she had the means and tenacity to make it happen. After all this time in the castle, no doubt she had memorized the guard’s patrols three times over. Only Beatrix and Steiner randomized their own patrols, as a means of not falling into a pattern in case such memorization occurred. Not on the Queen’s side, of course, but in the instance that someone decided to try and sneak in – not unlike a certain thief who was now causing a raucous again. First thing was first; she needed to check the gargant tunnel. The massive creature held a unique scent that was only detectable when it had been nearby. It hadn’t been long since Garnet had gone missing so if she had taken a ride underground, Beatrix would certainly smell the creature.
She turned down the hallway to the queen’s chambers, already planning out her next steps even as she took them. A quick run down the stairs to the dungeon level, through the duel gates and she would be there. A five minute run at best, if she kept her current pace. She was about to push open the doors when the sound of quickened clanking caught her ear. She turned, expecting to find her husband bounding around the corner at breakneck speed. Had one of his guards alerted him to her suspicious antics?
Instead, it was Dojebon, sliding past the corner and chasing after her. “General!” He called out, waving his hand like a maniac. “General!” He called again, though she had already stopped and was clearly staring at him.
"Dojebon, what is it?” Had he found the lovers out before they escaped? This would make her hunt all the easier.
He came to a sliding stop in front of her, planting his hands on his knees to catch his breath. She waited as patiently as a person could, given her wanton need to find the Queen. When he had finally sucked in enough air, he pushed himself up and looked at her. “The trap door on the east tower has been activated. Seems like someone fell into the pits.”
"Blast it,” she hissed between clenched teeth. That was too ironic not to correspond. Clearly Zidane and Garnet had made it to the tower, hoping the fairly secluded stop would give them some personal alone time. She couldn’t even imagine what they had been doing to accidentally activate the trap. Whatever the case, it seemed her path was now the only option. "Remain here to guard the door. Do not let anyone past you for any reason. Even her highness.”
Dojebon looked like he had been kicked in the gut. “M-Ma’am?”
"I will take full responsibility for my orders, Dojebon. But do as I ask,” was her short respond before she pushed open the door and burst into the room. Now she was less worried about where they were hiding and more concerned over their welfare. If they fell through one of the trapholes…
Well, they weren’t going to be alone wherever they landed.

It was difficult to command the thief's patience or or caution in a myriad of situations, but when involving his beloved he was wont to tread on eggshells if it meant avoiding the obnoxious disruptions and caterwauling from her knights-in-waiting. While they were far from dismissive of the pair's bond, far be it for any to dare tempt the Eidolon summoning Queen and Void slaying thief from the other. For Zidane, at the very least, Dagger was all of his reasons and more for waking in the mornings and sweeping through he long hours of the day to watch her face as she fell asleep. Intoxicating and addictive her voice and scent had given him cause to delve ever closer to her than, perhaps, any had ever been given quarter to. His earnest affections and true love for her were strengthened by his action. He would be at her side at her calling and whisk her away whenever she needed the peace and solitude that were far from attainable for figures of power such as she.Had he the means he would, for her, capture a star. All the things he hated about romance novels had become -- everything he was. A sickening cliche that could do naught but waltz into every troupe imaginable when concerning his beloved. But he was raised in the theater and no matter how much he came to despise those cut and paste lovers, he would be just that if it meant her happiness. He never knew anything as strong as his love for her until he was denied her presence. Whenever he thought back to his adventures he could only do to kick himself for having threatened their chances together with his tomfoolery and obnoxious resolve to be a tough guy.All tough guys got was the first coffin fitting during a tragedy. Feeling her close to him was everything he needed and all he could wan. Even through his gloves the tips of his fingers could feel her form and the fire that touched his flesh with every trail his hands made to support her back and keep her ever sunk against his form. Each kiss he presented her whittled away a bit more of his self-control. As he buried his mouth against the crook of her neck, his hands drifted from their original positioning into treacherous territory. His tail had curled up, the end swaying like an asp prepared to strike. C l i c k
Oh sh-- Shwwwwwwooop! The pair went careening down a trap! He had done his best to pull Dagger to his form and protect the precious cargo from their drop. He was not sure how far they fell, or fast, but there was not much pain associated with the crash. It seemed Dagger had managed to guard him against the fall with her quick casting despite their awkward positions. Once they reached the bottom of the pitfall Zidane lay stone still, his back having hit the ground with enough force to wind him. No measure of protect could guard against the lengthy drop, but it did keep him from breaking any bones this time. He felt the warm touch of Dagger's curative spell filling him with a renewed energy, at least the one would could immediately grasp. The feeling he had while holding her was as flat as he was on his back.he was unsure if the growling noise had come from him or otherwise as he opened his eyes to the familiar, dim surroundings of the network of pathways beneath the castle. His hand reached up to rest on her hip, the sensation of her voice in his ear ticklish. His eyes snapped over as he made the connection."Shoot!" he shot up into a sitting position, pulling her close to his chest. "I guess our date's cut short!" Luckily he always kept his blades with him in the case of such emergencies. Though who would have thunk he need them on a date!?He would untangle himself from Dagger, the hesitation clear in his movements. Bouncing to his feet he reached out to grab the woman's hand. He made a quick overview of his surroundings before pulling the queen back into a corner with him, and just in time. The large, slobbering head of the feral Bandersnatch had leaned out from the darkness, the crackling torches weak regular refueling was dangerous in and of itself. He reached his hand up to pull her head to his chest, his heart thundering as he slowed his breathing, the rogue's body becoming completely still. After a moment the Bandersnatch sniffed at the ground and marched ahead of them. They weren't safe yet. They had two paths: back behind the feral creature, or out to their right and deeper into the castle. Zidane motioned his eyes to Dagger, their choices limited by the loping body of fur and teeth before them.Elsewhere along the passages it seemed more Bandersnatches were released into the underground passages in select locations to guard from assumed intruders... [break][break] Garnet’s eyes widened in unspoken horror as Zidane’s voice momentarily drowned out the low rumbling growls that emanated from the surrounding darkness. The Queen’s mind raced, her body acting upon instinct rather her own violation as her hands shot upwards towards his face, desperately attempting to stifle any further outbursts. Alas, Zidane proved faster, her arms scarcely up past his toned pectorals before she’d found herself pressed flush to Zidane’s chest, her arms pinned between them. Regardless of her restricted mobility, Garnet’s hands still curled upwards into tightly balled fists, those same fists gently tapped against Zidane’s chest. Oh Zidane… , Garnet internalized, resisting the urge to shake her head dismissively, unsure if she’d ever quite fathom Zidane’s particular way of thinking. [break][break]
Zidane carefully extracted himself from their entanglement, hesitation evident in each motion as he’d risen to his feet. His eyes darted back and forth as he’d scanned his immediate surroundings, his hand extended back towards him. Garnet willingly took his hand; her grip was strangely vice-like as she’d risen to her feet. She’d barely gotten her bearings before Zidane tugged her backwards, pulling her back into a corner with him just as slobber-filled maw of one of the Bandersnatch emerged from the darkness. Its’ grotesque features only sharpened by the scant illumination provided by the crackling torches. Garnet felt Zidane’s hand as it’d crept up along her neck, anchoring itself on the back of her head before pulling her back to his chest. [break][break]
Zidane’s thundering heartbeat echoed softly in her ear, his strained breathes a deafening symphony, one that prompted a cold beat of sweat to trickle down the small of her back. Garnet’s mahogany eyes drifted shut as she’d racked her brain, frantically trying to recall the schematics for the interweaving pathways – knowing one wrong turn could lead them deeper into its’ depths. Unlike Zidane, Garnet’s breaths came in slow controlled bursts as she’d forcibly tried to slow her own heartbeat – a tactic that Doctor Tot had taught her. The next thirty seconds lapsed on indefinitely, uncertainty pressing its’ way to the forefront of her thoughts – there was no way it wasn’t going to find them. Its’ steps sounded like deafening roars as they’d inched closer, so close that Garnet was certain if she could turn her head, she’d find herself staring into the Bandersnatch’s hunger-filled eyes or its’ gaping maw. [break][break] When it passed and Zidane’s grip slackened slightly, Garnet’s hand came up to press gently on his chest as she’d extracted herself from his grip. She’d taken a single step backwards, her arms draping themselves across her chest as her head turned from side to side as she’d assessed the situation further. She’d leant in towards Zidane’s ear.“I’ll silence it, strike it down… we only have one shot…” Garnet commanded, her tone lacked its’ normal whimsical edge, hardening to the point where it could be deemed authoritative – the same tone she’d used when addressing her protective entourage. Without awaiting his response, Garnet’s hand stretched outwards the retreating Bandersnatch, her lips moving rapidly as she’d recited memorized scriptures. [break][break] Upon the completion, an opaque black circle manifested itself beneath the Bandersnatch, its’ fur bristling as it’d detected the flux within the atmosphere. However, before it could cry out, the circle exploded upwards, its’ magic robbing the Bandersnatch of its’ ability to cry out for its’ allies. None the less, its head snapped back and forth as it’d tried to locate the source of its’ affliction. Its’ head snapping back in their direction, its’ tongue lashing about in a wild rage. Strange new worlds and the war within them. As she expected, the chambers were empty when she aggressively opened the door. That didn't matter to her in the moment; she had to move as quickly as possible. The entire lower level of the castle would be going into defensive mode once one of the trap doors had been activated. That meant cages holding the Bandersnatches back would slowly slide open and release the monstrosities to hunt down the so-called intruders and dispatch them. She didn't doubt that Zidane and Garnet, in normal circumstances, could hold off the beasts but if they became surrounded and overwhelmed...
She perished the thought for the moment as she swiftly walked over to the opposing side of the room and grabbed hold of the multi-pronged candle. With one easy jerk downwards, it unclasped the hidden lock within the walls and activated the gears that grumbled and creaked loudly within their confines. The fireplace, unlit for quite some time, slid back further into the wall and revealed a shadowed stairwell that dove into the downward spiraling path. She brought herself to face the stairs and prepared to march down when the distinct and chilling sound of a growl rumbled out from the deep. Her eye narrowed as the massive animal slowly started to march up the stairs, its form quickly beginning to tower over her. It's massive tongue wagged out from its slimy, glistening lips, dribbling saliva upon the stone ground in enthusiasm. It had found its first prey.
"You would do well to heel," Beatrix spoke to it, her hand slowly sliding Save the Queen out from its scabbard. Mindless animal or no, the General was not one for giving the opposing party a chance to back down. But the beast clearly had other thoughts in its head beyond reason, licking its sharp teeth in anticipation. Its tail began to slowly curl tight over its rear, the dog-like creature preparing to pounce. Beatrix scoffed. "I've no time to waste with you."
Just as the bandersnatch made its move, so did the General. She dashed past the diving creature's right side before it could even leap, her sword sliding through the air and meat in one single and smooth motion. The monster howled and fell to the ground, easily dispatched by the single stroke. Beatrix didn't even bother to look back at it as she leapt down the stairwell, passing each single step and landing at the bottom. Her heeled boots clacked loudly back at her in the narrow hallway, their echo the only sound beyond her heart thumping in her ears. At the end, she could hear the turning platform making its rounds, the heavy metallic sound reverberating through the chamber it resided in. As she came out at the end, she caught side of a bandersnatch leaping up from the stairwell below to her current platform, either by blind luck or hostile preparation. Beatrix leapt forward and landed on the spinning scaffold just as it began to turn.
The monster howled in anger as it realized it had just missed its prey. Beatrix came to a sudden stop as the platform halted only halfway through its circulation. The bandersnatch wiggled once more and leapt at her, causing her to backflip onto the stationary platform embedded into the wall. But as soon as her boots touched, she jumped forward and up, bouncing off the top of the creature's head and using it to leap over to the beginning of the winding stairwell. The creature, now even more incensed, leapt right after her. The General shuffled her feet, allowing her to make a quick turn back towards the bandersnatch but also away from him. Her sword flickered through the air and struck true, causing the creature to slam onto the stone steps and roll along it, defeated as well.
With two of the monsters brought down, Beatrix took off down the stairwell, making sure to leap over the body of the recently deceased bandersnatch. Two was easy game but there were far more within the confines of the dungeon. With any luck, she would manage to catch the others off guard and bring them down before they could cause the Queen any harm. Zidane as well -- though time would only tell how Beatrix would punish him for this debacle.

Over the years Zidane has found himself in a number of sticky situations and has as easily wormed his way out. Most times he charged on ahead with the intent of facing it, but come once an era there was a situation where he perceived as a bit overmuch, and this had to be one of the two, the other being his slip-up about taking Dagger on an airship cruise and recalling it had not been her he invited -- that was a debacle and landed hi knee deep in monster shit trying to make it up to her. He really hated the Festival of the Hunt. Way too much work. He watched as the horrid creature nosed around with its uncanny expression. He had to wonder what horrors these things were bred from as they looked like an amalgamation of a giant mu and hound.
Their breathe was fetid, most like from a wholly carnivorous diet and having no bones thereafter to chew upon to clean their separated teeth that seemed more kin for crushing than actually chewing. Their gaze was a malm long and nigh indiscernible just what direction they were looking. It made it tough to properly adjust for movement when they looked left, but pounced right. He blinked, feeling Dagger move from his form, and not in the direction he had hoped. Instead of away from it, she went towards it. Her plan was to eliminate its capacity to bark, or burp, or whatever the hell these things did. Honestly it wasn't a sound he had ever heard any animal make, if these fiends even were animals anymore. He watched as she cast an all too familiar spell on the beast, something that came quite handy when dealing with more adept creatures and the odd bandit.
Zidane watched it raised its head and, for but a moment, he had gripped the hilt of his blades, ready to strike, but he wouldn't be able to perform a killing blow in such a narrow corridor. With its massive body of fur and muscle he would have risked himself, or Dagger, getting thrashed about. and hurled into the dungeons' depths His gaze drifted to the narrow platform it was perched upon. Zidane bolted away from the Bandersnatch and would suddenly charge him with blinding speed and force. Jumping up he would send a kick at the side of the creature's skull with a Swift Attack so sharp that it would knock the Bandersnatch back, causing it to lose its footing on the stony ground.
Silent panicking consumed it before it would fall to its death. The crash of its body would only do to alert the Bandersnatch below who looked up, those beady eyes glistening in the darkness. The noise was enough to carry down the corridors and echo across the hollowed halls. Zidane winced and turned his gaze to Dagger before offering a shrug.
"The path is clear." There was that, but now there was a time limit. It was only a matter of time before the beasts teamed up and went on the hunt! MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

Off in the distance, Garnet swore she could hear the unmistakable sound of the hidden passageway that led into the network of passageways Zidane and herself were lost within. The mechanical symphony of cogs and gears as they’d ground against one another, their audible protests as pieces of the wall fell into their newfound set positions were simultaneously a majestic angelic choir and the devil’s own jitter. How could it be both simultaneously? Few knew of that particular passage way, Steiner and Beatrix, were one of the few within the castle privy to how to open the passage way. While Garnet was ecstatic to know that General Beatrix was searching for it, that very same thought filled her with a silent dread. Despite being the Queen of the Alexandria, it didn’t mean she was exempt from Beatrix’s biting verbal lashings. [break][break] Of course, her most devote General was by no mean disrespectful during these undesirable encounters, Garnet had learned to read between the imaginary lines – Beatrix’s tongue rivaled the ferocity of her blade. In the back of her mind, Garnet was curious to see how Zidane planned to worm his way out of this one. Without doubt, the Genome had a knack for not only getting himself trouble but also eluding it just as effortless. Though, his track record with General Beatrix, feller of a hundred men, it seldom seemed to end in his favor. The fact he hadn’t been number one hundred one was no doubt a miracle in its’ own design. [break][break] Garnet’s thoughts were pulled back to her current reality as she’d registered that the silenced beast had raised its’ head, its’ cumbersome feet padding against the ground. Her fist balled into fists at her side, refusing to permit herself to display weakness in front of one of her own castle’s guardians – not a lone one at least. Before it could advance in her direction, Garnet heard Zidane’s footfall growing more distance, only to rapidly come back in her direction. He isn’t Garnet thought to herself just as Zidane’s silhouette streaked by, his foot impacting the side of the creature’s skull with an audible crack. One that drew an faint wince from between her lips, no doubt, that had to hurt. [break][break] The Bandersnatch’s paws desperately clawed at the stony ground, unable to find purchase as it’d toppled backwards. Its’ body plummeting downwards only to sickeningly connect with the ground below, every bone within its’ body cracking in sync creating a gut-wrenching noise that made Garnet’s face pale ever-so. Garnet inched her way towards the ledge, peering daringly down into the darkness only to see innumerable glowing eyes leering from the shadows back at her. A deafening roar coming from its’ comrades, their own way of swearing vengeance upon the fallen. Her head craned back in Zidane’s direction, just in time to see his dismissive shrug of his shoulders. A dull ache already forming in the back of her head – typical husband. [break][break] Nonetheless, Garnet nodded her head in affirmation, glancing back over her shoulder as she heard the sound of the beasts’ heavy footfall growing louder and louder. She nodded and sprinted past Zidane, her arm snaking back to grab his wrist as she began to ascend the staircase that was on the other side of the narrow pathway. Just before she’d made it to the lip of the stair case, Garnet caught wind of the sound of something tumbling in their direction. She didn’t hesitate to throw herself against the wall, mustering a surprising bit of strength to pull Zidane alongside her. Her lips moving rapidly as she’d erected a Protect atop of herself, just in time as the corpse of the Bandersnatch that Beatrix had slain connected with the invisible barrier. [break][break] The protective bubble she’d created bowed inward dangerously, threatening to shatter beneath the staggering weight of the beast. Knowing that she and Zidane had little hopes of moving the beast on their own. She closed her eyes focusing on the defensive ward she’d created, forcing more of her magic into to cause it to expand outwards. Its’ strength redoubling before as it’d shifted outwards and pushed the corpse just so, sending it tumbling down the remainder of the stairs and into some of the Bandersnatch that caught up to them. Garnet’s shoulders visibly sagged, the aftermath of unconventional magical usage had taken its’ toll on her. However, she forced herself to turn to face the Bandersnatch that had gathered around their second fallen brethren. [break][break] She’d focused on the closest one, her hands outstretch in their direction as she’d invoked Blind , a wisp of monochromatic bursts spiraled freely around her hand before it was launched in the direction of the closest beast. Now robbed of its’ sight, its’ paws connected awkwardly with the stairs and sent it reeling backwards into its’ cohorts. She didn’t stop there no, Garnet then smirked as she’d picked another one, invoking Berserk and Confusion in rapid succession. A myriad of brightly colored motes that resembled sheet music spiraled about the next Bandersnatch, followed by the upward circulation of a vibrant red miasma, which flowed into any opened orifice on the beast. [break][break] With her plan laid out, the beast turned upon its’ comrades, bearing its’ fangs as it’d launched at the nearest with undeniable fury, sending one of them toppling off the platform. Meanwhile, the blind one flailed about as it tried to get to its’ feet, kicking another in the muzzle as it’d tried to pass. Garnet wiped her brow which was now glistening with a very noticeable layer of sweat. Her grip on Zidane’s hand tightening as she’d began to push forward once more, uncertain if he’d pull away to add his own dramatic flair.

Strange new worlds and the war within them. How long had it been since she had done this exact dance before? Years, at this point. But the paladin could easily recall how she had trounced and flit through the stone stairwell, her body a swirling top of linen and steel. The sound of her blade cutting through the air was only muted by its insulting slash as it found the flesh of the Bandersnatches that filled the tube. She could remember the grunts of her temporary partner in Freya, the Burmecian warrior that had offered herself as yet another blockade for Princess Garnet’s escape. She could smell the faint rusted metal and hear the clanging of greaves as her future husband fought alongside them. Back when she had turned on the only authority she had followed since her inception into the army. Back when she had finally taken a stand for something she believed in rather than blindly following ill-conceived orders into the darkness.
It felt like ages but twelve turns of the seasonal wheel was truly not much. Though, if she were to answer what moment of nostalgia she could possibly connect to, she would never had assumed it would be this. Yet here she was once more, racing down the stairs against wild forces, chasing after Garnet’s heels. She turned on her own heel, moving herself out of the way of a charging Bandersnatch that had made a wild leap at her. She smoothly bent backwards to avoid its claws and, as it landed, sunk her sword into its rump. A pained roar bellowed out from its throat and it turned to glare at her, only to find her blade swinging through its face at lightning speed. As its fleeting soul lefts it body, Beatrix used the falling form as a foundation for her leap downwards, avoiding running through a trifecta of similar animals. She landed in a smooth roll, popping back up to her feet in an instant. And just in time; her blade went vertical in time to block a swipe from one of the Mist monsters before it could find purchase in her arm.
"Are you all so dull as to not see how outmatched you are?” She hissed between her clenched teeth. The growl that she got in answer only seemed to further hammer the point of their lacking intelligence. She pressed against the held paw, knocking it away, before she swung Save the Queen in a vertical arc, cutting through the monster’s bared chest. It roared like its brethren had and reared back. A fresh opening before her, the Alexandrian General brought her foot up and slammed it into the creature’s stomach, sending it backwards towards the other two creatures behind it. It hit them with such force that they each lost their footing and fell forwards, slamming into the concrete stairs. The one she had already wounded slid over the steps, its upper half beginning to sag over the edge. Beatrix rushed forward and swiped at the disoriented pair, divorcing their wild souls from their bodies. And as the other one rolled over the edge and began to fall, the General leapt down and landed on its stomach, essentially riding it into the depths of the dungeon.
There wasn’t much she could hear over the rushing wind in her ears but there were distinct pops, followed by a furious roar. Spells being cast against similar foes perhaps? That meant that she was far closer to Queen Garnet and Zidane than she had first thought. Her knees bent quickly and then she was flipping backwards, head over rear. She had timed her leap to land her on the stairs just before the ground, though in her jump she had hastened the creature to its death. She ignored the sickening sound it made as it fleshy form met the tempered stone, racing down the last few steps and turning into the doorway. Surely more creatures awaited her but there was no doubt she was hot on her Queen’s trail. It was just a matter of locating her, escorting her and Zidane out of this tempest of wild creatures and then giving them a good scolding.

During his time with the former princess and their crew he had come to respect Steiner's beliefs. He had come to learn that the soldier had grown up around the same time as Baku, their experience with war far outweighing the thief's own lifetime. The pair had overcome their turmoil quite differently. While Steiner had been granted prestige and used his power to protect the royal family which had saved him from what possibly could have been a wretched life: Baku had no such leisure. Both men worked to the bone to gain what it was they had and fought tooth and nail to keep it. In a way the two were quite alike, which could account for why they bumped heads so often. It was not the same between the troupe member and the knight errant.
Zidane's very existence belittled everything Steiner had believed in. The way of life and idea that everyone should just follow the law and be good was assuaged by the rouge's inherent disregard for authority, even that of his own adoptive father. Baku had learned to handle the rogue, but Steiner was just learning what kind of person Zidane was beneath it all. They had eventually come to a silent understanding that, despite all the objections: Zidane only wanted what was best for everyone even at the cost of his own life. In a sense the thief was exactly everything Steiner believed in: the good of people. So it was, that in times like this, he felt he was doing the studious knight disfavor. He knew the man would complain because he damn well knew the rust bucket was right.
He put Dagger through the works sometimes, but that was hardly saying that Dagger had not done so to him in kind in the past. So it was when his kick landed and cracked at the side of the Bandersnatch's skull he would, all too late, realize that he had made a huge mistake. The force of the kick had unsteadied it and sent it plummeting down into the pits where others were alerted. He blinked when a blur of orange zipped by him. The touch of Dagger's hand on his wrist spurred him into action as he dared not resist her plan of action, lest put them into further jeopardy. He kept up with the Queen only to be struck by a sudden yanking sensation as he was pulled by the queen around another corner, his form sidled up against her own. His eyes turned up, something careening down from above. His eyes went wide, tail frizzing up like a spooked cat. Gloved hands had come up to brace himself against the wall placing himself between Dagger and whatever was coming down.
Zidane had an absurd reaction time when it came to shielding girls. Sometimes it was a joke amongst his gang and others that his focus on girls left him with tunnel vision, but such was far from the truth. Baku had raised a young man whose eyes could see the worth of another person. On Gaia chivalry was a way of life. It was a man's job to shield the woman and no one took that to greater lengths than the youngest Tribal. While women did seem to run things here in Alexandria and hardly looked to be opponents you wanted to face alone, let alone tempt their ire, it was still expected of you as a man to be their shield so his drive to Protect Girls was a measurement of that responsibility and expectation.
He was glad for the aethric bubble to raise above them because as the object in question fell had come to reveal itself as the corpse of a Bandersnatch the rogue was thankful the full berth of its weight had not contacted his back. He was still hit though, so it left him winded for a moment, head turning to watch as his beloved manipulated the energy around them to push back the dead weight. Zidane helped by pushing his back against it to give leverage to the maiden's actions. He let out a sigh of relief as the weight was gone. The thief found his hand instinctively reaching up to cup the side of Dagger's face, checking on her as her body seemed to heave from producing so much magic. It couldn't be easy. Just as his physical abilities put stress on his muscles her body must struggle as well with her spells. He stepped back as she turned, his blades gripped together in his left hand.
He grabbed her hand with his right and stood by, watching as she resumed her task. While not the most physically adept of their comrades Dagger's magic was unmatched and it often turned the tide of battle. While one could wholly expect Zidane to act in the head of battle it wasn't lost on him that said body came from above. He didn't have time to think about it!
He would attempt to pull Dagger to his chest, sheathing his blades as the voracious hunters turned on one another thanks to her spells. He would try and pull her off her feet, bridal style. If Dagger knew anything of her husband it was not difficult to read his actions: blue eyes drifting up to where it had fallen from. He had spotted it: a glimmer of metal as an Alexandrian maiden rained from the sky onto the nearby steps. The Bandersnatch fought viciously for a time, but it would not take long for them to reassert their hierarchy and turn after the pair. With that Zidane would attempt to leap up a level. Zidane's boots just barely caught the edge of the surface, a Bandersnatch leaping up and nearly snatching a bite of the Genome's tail. Zidane would remained crouched, holding Dagger so she could stand on her own.
All seemed well enough because as Zidane looked up he would see a vision of relief. Beatr-- But such reunion was short lived as one of the Bandersnatch had jumped up just high enough to clip the rouge with a claw and send him tumbling down from his spot. It as no small height and from the angle the thief was only able to right himself before he crashed down onto the stones below, rolling into the wall at the path's narrow end. he pushed to stand. On either side of him was a dark abyss and in front of him was a horde of three, very angry and hungry Bandersnatch. He looked back, the tear in his jodhpurs a result of the attack.
"You bastards! I liked these pants!" Zidane went to draw his blades but came to realize his sheath was gone. He looked passed the beasts only to spot that his belt has been what was caught, the leather snapping. It lay discarded across the way. "Damn it!" MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS
