Back again, but at least it was becoming a familiar world. She liked this world best so far out of the strange new ones, but she wished she was with someone from home. It seemed that just when she had started to get settled and comfortable, here she went again, somehow ending up in another world. She didn't understand how this was happening, or why. However, if she had the ability to choose where she ended up, she supposed Radiant Gardens was probably the best place to be, it was probably easier to locate her, for her family.
But it seemed they hadn't been able to follow, or been there to notice that she was gone. After heading home with Cloud she had realized nobody was home, but Cloud had stayed with her at 7th Heaven, until he had been called away or something, she couldn't exactly recall just at the moment. She knew her phone might work, but she wasn't exactly too worried about ending up here.
Right now, young Marlene sat by the edge of the fountain she had discovered, head down and knees to her chest as she let a hand dabble in the cool water. She didn't know what she was going to do, or where to go. She could go home, but then nobody might be there..
She was alone, for now, and out of anybody's way and not underfoot of any vendors or people walking around. It seemed that this was a lesser-known fountain; maybe that was a good thing; she didn't really feel like talking at the moment. The only sound was water falling, and distant voices far off from where she sat.

[attr="class","burst"] [attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ Rina knew Radiant Garden like the back of her hand. Every nook and cranny and obscure path. She had lived here for a good long time and over that time she had made sure to know her surroundings. Like herself, Radiant Garden had a dark past, so she wanted to be ready just in case the world ever fell again. Rina had been here for the first one and didn’t want to experience that ever again.
Coming home one breezy afternoon she decided to go down one of those obscure paths, barefoot, with boots in hand. It was too lovely of a day to stay indoors if one didn’t have to. There were plenty of spots in town to enjoy the day, but she knew of a place that was open to the sun, but almost shut off from the town. The cool, worn stone path felt good on her toes as she went on her way. Her destination was an old and practically forgotten fountain that Rina liked to soak her feet in sometimes. It was a peaceful place to relax and reflect. Rina had never encountered anyone else there, but as she turned the corner there was a little girl sitting on the edge. Her hand was placed into the water. Rina looked at the girl’s sweet face but couldn’t place her. Someone new?
"Oh. Hello there."

She didn't respond for a moment, but she looked up when she realized she wasn't alone, turning to see the new person, before the idea occurred to her that this might be her fountain. She quickly hopped down, eyes round and rather apologetic.
She hadn't been expecting anyone to show up, considering this particular fountain was outside of the normal paths and the people who lived here that it hadn't occurred to the young girl that anyone might seek out this place too. But then again, this was a peaceful and quiet place to be. Why wouldn't someone else look for quiet time? She ducked her head in apology to the other girl, feeling somewhat selfish for not noticing her earlier.
"I'm sorry! I didn't realize this was someone's fountain.."
She looked at the other girl, swiping a hand across her forehead to brush her bangs out of her face. The girl was much taller, and really pretty. She seemed like an okay person, probably even like Tifa. She hoped the girl didn't mind that Marlene, too, had found this place to be appealing.

Rina's eyes grew wide and she couldn't help but giggle at the girl's assumption. How innocent of a thought...
Rina shook her head and stepped towards the girl. She decided to take a seat on the ledge of the stone fountain, patting the spot next to her where the girl had just been sitting. “My fountain? I thought this may have been your fountain!” Little kids amazed Rina. They seemed so innocent of the world, but at the same time so wise beyond their years. It lasted up until the teenage years and then it all went kaput. Rina knew that from experience. Rina smiled kindly and patted the spot again. “Maybe we can share this fountain? It can belong to the both of us. My name is Rina? What’s your name?” The young girl seemed sweet enough. Rina wouldn't mind to spend some time with her.

She hadn't really been expecting to be invited to stay, knowing that some people found kids, no matter what age, to be annoying and a nuisance, best out of sight and not heard. But this lady seemed every minute to be more like Tifa; kind, welcoming, but also ready to kick butt if the situation called for it. Just at the moment, however, the 'situation' appeared to be just relaxing, not being worried or any sort of negative feel. It was a nice change from recent adventures, the thought of relaxing and sharing a quiet space with a nice person, especially one as nice as this girl.
She looks at the other, her hazel eyes shining at her words.
"You mean it? I mean, I'm not intruding, am I? I'm not supposed to be a bother to people.."
She really did want to stay, she was very curious about this girl and didn't want to just leave. She smiled at Rina, and eagerly climbed up to sit beside her in the spot that the girl had patted. If people wanted you to leave they didn't usually sit down and then invite you to sit too. She smiled, when the girl spoke and also gave a name.
"Rina? That's a nice name. I'm Marlene. Thank you for letting me sit with you."
Manners were important to remember, too.

“Marlene. Such a grown-up name, for such a grown-up girl. You’re more than welcome to come and sit with me anytime. It’s not an intrusion at all. I don’t get to share fountains often with people.”
Rina beamed brightly and turned to face Marlene. Rina still couldn’t remember ever seeing the girl before. She must have been from a different world. But why would a little girl be traveling alone? It wasn’t a safe universe for adults, let alone for tiny humans. Rina decided to bring it up.
“So, are you new here? I’ve seen lots of little kids around here playing around town. I haven’t seen you before. Do you have family here? Oh my goodness! Are you lost!?” Panic rose up in Rina’s body at that thought. This kid could be lost! Her family might be frantically looking for her!

Marlene splashed her feet in the water a little bit, feeling the cooling effect it had on her toes and smiling about it. It was such a nice place to be, even if nobody from home was here. It wasn't unusual to be without them, but she much preferred when they were around; she felt safer with Cloud or Tifa around. Sure, she was pretty okay on her own but she still liked their company and their regard for her. She never felt like a little kid with them; okay maybe a couple of times she felt less than confident in herself and being with the reassured her.
She looked at Rina, hearing the concern that she had become familiar with when encountering other people on her solo adventures.
"I come here sometimes.. when nobody is home. I found myself on another world far from home, and somehow I've gotten to other worlds. Sometimes I find these transports, and sometimes I just wake up there.. "
She pulls out a little cellphone, checking it.
"Ummmmmmm.... I've been here...two days, I think? I met a very scary man bird wizard on an earlier visit."

Rina blinked in surprise as Marlene explained her unusual circumstance. Sometimes she had transports and sometimes she just appeared? Like she was warping from Point A to Point B? How strange. That was something new for Rina to investigate. She had never heard of anything like that before. Rina’s mind was going a mile a minute trying to figure out the science or magic behind Marlene’s traveling. She was thinking and thinking until Marlene said something that made her thoughts freeze in their tracks and shatter into a billion pieces. “I met a very scary man bird wizard on an earlier visit.”There was only one person on this world that fit that description. Rina’s heart clenched tight in her chest and it became quite hard to breathe. Her hand gripped against the rim of the fountain, the knuckles turned white. She was about to be thrown into a panic attack if she didn’t gain control in the next few seconds. The event that had happened only a short time ago that had thrown Rina’s life into disarray and it was something that she was not ready to deal with. She kept shoving the shattering pain and loss deep into her soul with the intention of not addressing it anytime soon. Was it healthy? No. Not healthy at all. Was she going to do it anyway? Hell yes. Leave it to this angelic child to bring her demons forward. Rina forced those demons back inside, shutting them tightly into a box somewhere within her. She plastered a fragile smile on her face and spoke to Marlene, completely ignoring the last half of her statement. Rina spoke with a voice that felt just as weak as the rest of her.
“Two days, huh? Have you had anything to eat? Anywhere to sleep?”

She swung her legs a little, splashing water around and feeling the spray of the fountain against the skin of her legs and feet. She watched Rina and her expression (or lack of one), instead of the fountain. She watched her with a rapt attention that was beyond the years of a child her age; it was something a lot of people didn't know about her, at least, those who didn't know her. Her perception was pretty clear despite her young age. Her new friend had been captured by something that now preoccupied her.
She knew that expression… It was a look that she had seen before, on people like Cloud, like some of the other people back on the Planet. It was a look that showed up when something that was hurtful, painful, or not easy to talk about came up. When things that shouldn't be said, or couldn't be said, words that dug up things that might not be wanted… Marlene felt an ache form inside; the same ache she had felt every time that look formed on Cloud's face, on Tifa's face, on Denzel's.
Despite the fact that it would be hidden quickly, covered up by denying or a quick smile and a joke that Marlene knew was for her benefit, she felt bad… she tugged at one of the ends of her ribbon before reaching to pat Rina's hand gently.
"I didn't mean for you to be stolen away by what I said. It's okay, don't worry about what I said. It was pretty silly."
Her voice is cheerful, bright, her eyes are clear, she doesn't want her friend to feel bad. She didn't want to pry if it was so serious, but something in her told her to at least try to comfort her new friend, as it was clear she probably shouldn't have said anything.
I shouldn't have brought a rain cloud around. My travels aren't always planned or where I want to go, but I've not really ended up anywhere bad.. yet. I carry a bag with me, in case I end up someplace else. That's for pretty much whatever I want; as for sleep, I guess it's a kid thing that I have so much energy. What about you? Have you traveled, Rina?"

Rina slowly glanced down at the child as her hand found Rina’s and placed her gentle pats. A sad smile quirked at her lips and Rina shook the girl’s apology away. She pulled her hand away from Marlene’s just to place it on the child’s head. “Oh...it's okay, Marlene. You just surprised me is all.” Rina dropped her hand and stared ahead. “There’s no bird wizards here. Not...not anymore.” She grew quiet for a moment before clearing her throat and swiping away the handfuls of tears that had somehow appeared on her cheeks. As Rina composed herself she listened as Marlene told her how she seemed prepared with wherever she seemed to go and asked if Rina had ever traveled. The girl laughed a loud almost incredulously. “Travel? Oh yeah. I’ve traveled.”

Marlene was quiet, too, as she gave her new friend a moment; sometimes Cloud or Tifa needed moments, too. She supposed that everyone did, now and again, for things that they remembered/thought of, and sometimes those rememberings weren't always the nicest or happiest things. She knew Cloud had several 'moments', especially one that took him away from home for a long time. She was respectful of quiet moments, despite her child view of things. She, too, had occasional moments, but most of hers were thinking, maybe even daydreaming, not exactly what it seemed others thought about during the moments.
She was relieved, then, when Rina actually laughed. Perhaps she could brighten her newest friend's spirits yet. She set her feet in the water, looking to Rina curiously.
"What kind of places have you been? You don't end up in places randomly though, do you? Is there a way to not just appear somewhere?"
If her friend had a lot of travel experience, maybe she could learn from her how to avoid random travel.

Rina stood up then, coming to stand in front of the young girl, stretching as she did so. She crossed her arms in front of her chest and tilted her head at Marlene. Her method of travel was strange, that was for sure. Rina had never heard of teleportation quite like what the girl had. "I don't travel like you do, Marlene. That's for sure. I have a ship. A Gummi ship. That's how I travel."Rina held out her hand to the girl. "I have a library. Perhaps we could find a book that has some sort of incantation to reverse this crazy traveling that you have going on. I could teach you how to travel the old fashioned way. After we take you home of course. Your parents need to see you and know that you're safe. What do you say, kiddo?"

Marlene watched Rina as the other girl got up from her seat on the fountain and walked around before coming to stand in front of her, arms crossed in a manner that she had seen Tifa use before when thinking about something. Marlene tilted her head curiously, watching Rina thoughtfully. When she mentioned a Gummi Ship, Marlene thought this sounded both peculiar and interesting at the same time. Maybe she had already been on one and didn't know it; but she couldn't be sure, not until she actually knew what one looked like.
She hopped down off the fountain, taking the hand that was offered to her. She felt very safe and happy with Rina; she reminded her of family. She wondered if Rina had family, or if she might want to become part of their family back home. Family didn't seem to just be their little group, but instead included the rest of Avalanche's members like Mister Vincent, Nanaki, Mr. Cid...and everyone else. So maybe, maybe she could?
Rina's words about having a library caught Marlene's attention, and she wondered at this idea; there were books on this sorry of thing that kept happening to her? That was certainly amazing indeed! She smiled up at Rina, clearly excited.
"That's so cool! I'm sure we'll find lots of interesting things in your library! My parents aren't usually too worried, though I'm not sure they're aware I've been traveling like this, without expecting to."
She wasn't worried, though; if anyone could find an answer, she felt it was her friend Rina.

Taking smaller steps than usual, in order to keep stride with the young one who's hand she held, Rina started to direct them towards her home. "What all do you have Marlene? Have you been keeping up with clothes? And food? How have you been eating?!" One after the other Rina shot questions at the poor child. She had no clue why but she felt responsible for her and wanted to make sure that she was well taken care of before sending her back home. "We can stop by the tailor if we need to. Or even the cafe if you're hungry. It's up to you."
The pair had finally made it to the small walled in corner where Rina's home was. She pointed to the wood door with the glass panes. "That's mine. But the market is just down and around the corner. Tell me whatever you need, Marlene." Marlene Wallace
