| Deep beneath the Rozarrian Empire, corruption had taken root, its’ manifestation the blighted undead whom now ran ramped within the crypt of a noble family – one that had long since faded into obscurity. For a period, the Council elected to forego action, believing this to be an isolated incident, one that would undoubtedly resolve itself. Sadly, that was hardly the case, with each passing day, the undead grew emboldened; driven to desperation by their carnal desires to feed, to voice their injustice, and to find peace. Now the Council was hard-pressed, a handful of rumors had begun to circulate throughout the local markets, not to mention a few documented mysterious disappearances – the worst was the discovery of a half-eaten victim.
Given the current state of the Empire, the Council was reluctant to mobilize its’ commissioned soldiers, dreading the backlash they could face if this expedition ended horrible – not to mention it could outright cripple their standing forces. After much deliberation, the Council had elected to digging into its’ coffers to fund hiring a handful of mercenaries. However, those that they’d elected to commission for the job had been carefully selected, each had a rather unsavory background – the type of people that wouldn’t be missed if they didn’t return. One candidate had been sought after in particular, a disgraced Sky Pirate, Ysera – in her prime, she’d caused them no shortage of headaches.
Meanwhile, just beyond the entrance of the crypt there stood a crystalline guardian. Said guardian had been crafted in the image of a youthful man, his facial expression serene – as if he’d lapsed into an eternal slumber. However, his petite hands rested upon the pummel of a blade that was questionably too large to be brandish by any normal hume. Upon closer inspection, one might have noticed out the outer most layer of the crystal seemed to shift, a subtle motion indicating that whatever was trapped beneath its’ surface was very much alive.

| ★ CHILDREN OF THE SKY OUT IN THE DESERTS OF DARKNESS AND DREAMS OUT THROUGH THE OCEANS OF SADNESS WE SAILED VENTURING ONWARDS THROUGH MYSTICAL SCENES BLOWN ON THE WHIM OF THE WIND THAT PREVAILED WE HAD NO REASON TO DOUBT THE TRUTH DRIVEN BY DANGER AND DISCONTENT AND THE DRUMS OF YOUTH | | It hadn't been long since her group had disbanded. Considering her wish to help aid the people of Ivalice and find some... redemption, this seemed like a start like any other. Just going to places and figuring out what to do. At this moment she seemed like a single man clan, perhaps she should send message back home and see if others were willing to help out. That's like creating a clan, she thought to herself as she was walking through some ruins, she felt a bit out-of-place there and she noted some others that were hired. A little bit ahead were two thugs from their appearances and they hadn't exactly been nice at all.
Thinking about it, the Empire didn't exactly hire a 'group' or a 'clan'. Instead most of them appeared to be villains or even homeless. What would their story be? she pondered as she looked over her shoulder way back in the ruins there had been a couple that had difficulty even traveling this long distance. It made Ysera wonder if she should halt and help them forward. It seemed like the nicest thing to do. Likely even further back there was that washed-up Nu Mou. All in all, this entire expedition wasn't really... in the best sort of company.
The laughter from the two thugs in front of her brought her back to moving. Ysera didn't really like this one bit. Everything of it just shouted "trap", like they were sent to die. Well, if anything happens, I'm immediately out again, she figured and while she thought of it, she imagined also trying to prevent the others to go further in. The ones that looked like they didn't belong here. Honestly, she had hoped to find some familiar faces as well, perhaps another of her band of sky pirates, but alas.
Having passed the ruins, they came close by the crypt. Ahead Ysera could see the two thugs enter, fluttering her wings the Gria took off and followed a bit quicker than usual. She wanted to stay near to see what would happen to them. It was best to use the two to trigger any traps. She might be sent here as a person nobody might miss, but that didn't mean she was as brainless as some of the people that took up this mission. And these two weren't really people she honestly could even care about.
Looking inside, she noted there was some crystalline... statue? The two thugs were already looking around the crypt. One of them appeared to be interested in the statue, albeit from the looks of it, more in the sword than anything. "Hey, this looks like a real sword this frozen person is wielding," he called out at the other who was taking out his axe, "shall we cut it loose?" Staring at the two, Ysera simply thought imbeciles.

| Dieter’s crystallized form remained undamaged even after the Geomancer had brought its’ax down in a daft overhead strike. In fact, the Geomancer’ let out a pained cry as the harsh reverberations transmitted themselves throughout his body, a jarring agony settling within his hands. Despite his best efforts, the Geomancer let his ax slip from between his fingers, its’ rounded connecting with the dusty cobblestone beneath his feet. A string of curses slipped from the Geomancer’s lips, coupled with his roguish companions’ unwelcomed laughter at his antics. It didn’t take the duo long to delve into taking measured verbal jabs at one another, attempting to goad the other into taking yet another swing at the statue.
Alas, it would prove unnecessary as a distinct crackling noise reverberated throughout the crypt the trio found themselves standing in. Upon closer inspection, one might note that there was a network of crisscrossing fractures on the youth’s forearm. Oddly enough, beneath the opaque crystal, one could see faint traces of alabaster peeking through – what manner of stone had it been carved from. The Geomancer’s interest had been piqued, resulting in him extending one of his hands and pressing it firmly against the fractured stone. His eyes fluttered shut as he extended his Geomancy magic towards the stones core, attempting to discern its’make up – a lesser known and utilized ability of Geomancers. His eyes widened in horror, his head snapping in Ysera and Harry’s direction, words dying on his lips as deafening crack could be heard from behind him. One could see the cracks that lined Dieter’s crystalline arm rapidly extended until it’d shattered, exploding outwards with a pitiful amount of force, nonetheless the clumps of stone were enough to send the Geomancer to the ground – a pained groan sliding from his lip. Now without the Geomancer in the way, they would see that the hand gripping the sword had visibly tightened, lithe muscles hidden beneath stone forcibly tightening and expanding causing innumerable cracks.
After what felt like an agonizing eternity but, had been only seconds, Dieter’s entire form was freed from its’ earthen prison, effectively revealing the child-like youth that then stumbled forward. His lackluster verdant eyes cracking open for the first time it what had likely been centuries, registering the presence of the trio before lapsing back into unconsciousness. The Thief was the first to draw his blade, stepping deftly over his comrade and positioning it close to the youth’s neck. A glance was spared in Ysera’s direction, technically, she was their defacto leader.
“Boss, what should we do with him… Why was he trapped in stone?”
