To Serve The Light. We Are Assassins.
Elstan didn't remember what happened. First she was in the middle of an assassination, next she was in this strange town. Her scarlet hair blew in a light breeze, making her tuck the left side behind her ear. She had never seen this place before, and interest and caution plastered her battle worn face. There was a relaxing fountain in the town square so she took a seat, and the sun was just coming up. The sky was painted in beautiful blues, purples and oranges. Her left eye watched the natural phenomenon like it was her first one. Truth was, she had seen her fair share of sunrises, but this one was different. There was a sense of peace and tranquillity to it. She let the early morning rays hit her face and she closed her dark eyes. She took in a deep breath through her nose and exhaled just a deep. It was this sort of peace she had never seen nor heard before. It was a change to the constant battles she was in. She had to enjoy it while she could. The clock striking the hour made her come back down to earth, and she looked at the time. Six o'clock exactly.
As the sleepy town began to wake up, Elstan stood up from where she was sitting. Some early morning townsfolk noticed she wasn't from their neck of the woods. Well the dead giveaway was the fact she was armed to the teeth with all sorts of strange weapons. A scythe, throwing knives and an armoured gauntlet that had a hidden blade attached to it. She was dressed in black, except for the odd flash of blood red here and there. She didn't want to disturb anyone, but she had to know where she was and how she got here. She hadn't signed a deal with anyone. Not that she could remember anyway, some contracts blurred into one. Money was money at the end of the day. She saw a kind looking older lady, who smiled at her. "Hello dear, you seem to be new in Traverse Town. Can I offer you some breakfast, you look famished." the plump woman croaked out. Elstan sighed in defeat. "Thank you, but I don't have anything to pay with." she said. "Nonesense, come inside. Travellers are always welcome. Especially those who can handle themselves." the lady spoke, practically pushing Elstan inside her café. She tried to protest but it was too late.
Elstan was plonked at a window table, overlooking the square. The woman busied herself with making a hot drink and food. Once done, the woman who was humming a cheerful tune, came over to Elstan's table and set the plate down. "Eat up, child. I have a feeling your journey is just beginning." with that the lady dashed into a back room. Looking down at the food it looked strange, but smelled wonderful. Picking up her cutlery, Elstan began to eat but with caution. To her surprise it tasted heavenly. Elstan was just about finished, when the door opened, the bell tingling to announce the arrival of a new customer. She looked up to see who it was, but she didn't recognise this stranger. Elstan discreetly moved her right hand to her thigh, as if she was going to scratch it. Instead, she put her fingers on her throwing knives in case she needed them. She watched their every move. A strange new place, had the assassin on high alert, but the food she had ate wasn't poisoned so she knew the lady was a kind hearted person. Her heartbeat was calm, her breathing was steady. The red haired assassin was ready in case this turned ugly.
