Damage Inflicted and Taken: ’ Both participants in this duel were kind enough to provide the data numerically, however I feel just to base a vote on that would short-change two great writers. This was a conflict by two heavy damage dealers, earth vs brimstone. Both took pretty good chunks out of each other, particularly with Dieter going so far to lock out abilities for more potency. Both also took steps to counter the other’s damage through various means. My vote here goes to Geo-Nort because I felt he more controlled the flow of combat, and kept most of the encounter on his terms. [****** Dark******] Skill and Style: First of all, I’d like to say the entire premise of this Raid+ encounter is pretty stylish in and itself. Both writers worked to give a sense of continuity between several threads, which helped this conflict feel like a part of something bigger.
Both characters had a very set fighting style during this duel. T-Nort was geomancying and shadowing it up, while Dieter did debuffs and fiyah foah dayz. Both were aggressive, but in very different ways. Dieter, I believe, utilized his abilities the most skillfully, and took a lot of care in precisely showing just what was absorbed and what wasn’t, with very helpful summaries in the postscript. Which was good, because there were are few clashes where a heck of a lot happened. Dieter also used abilities in ways that were creatively tactical, but still made sense.
However, my vote goes to Darth Terra in this category for reasons of Style. Terranort had very specific motivations in this fight, and his writer did a good job making clear why certain choices were made. Healing Dieter for example, did not make sense from a purely tactical perspective, but it did for Terranort’s particular objective. Normally I groan inside when characters show no pain because of how ‘tough’ they are, even when being impaled or something. Here once again, Terra had a very specific motivation for keeping a stiff upper life while being immolated, which made it interesting, especially when he worried whether Dieter getting a particularly gnarly blow on him would shake his invincibility ploy. I also liked the way he played to Dieter’s pride, framing this conflict about being how well Dieter could ‘control’ the Darkness and force it to ‘submit’ to him, while in actuality intending to get Dieter to overcommit and be consumed, more subtle then the usual Sith Lord speal. . [****** Dark******] Descriptive Writing and Sportsmanship: Both authors naturally need no introduction and have long since established themselves as skilled writers who are very committed to meta-narrative they’ve helped build. Likewise, both proved again here they are sporting and are committed to this mini-story they’ve both made together over point-scoring. Both were pretty fair in the damage they took, and while I think Dieter overall gave better explanations why damage was blocked or countered, both adhered to using one of their more in exchange for negating another’s action, which is sporting.
My vote here goes to Dieter because while both authors set the scene and gave us good images of what their characters were doing even in the midst of this sword and sorcery slugfest, Dieter definitely took it to the next level. Not only were Dieters own moves described in detail, but T-Nort’s abilities were all acknowledged and we got to see more of Deiter’s reactions to them. Damage Inflicted and Taken: This one is pretty tough. Both parties dealt some pretty heavy damage and in turn actually took it versus blocking everything out every turn they got. The counters seemed reasonable on both sides and I loved the fact there is health meter so I know exactly the amount of health being taken. Still in the end, it was pretty clear that Terranort was winning, so I will give this one to him. [******Dark******] Skill and Style: Both had talent and skill making me wonder how on earth this was going to turn out. They were both tossing out powerful spells, but in the end, I think Terra's Light abilities gave him the edge to take this fight. Otherwise I think it might've been a draw. [******Dark******] Descriptive Writing and Sportsmanship: I'll have to agree with Roxie here. Of the two Dieter has more description in his writing. I could feel his fear, frustration and desperation making it lovely to read and get into. Terranort did well too, but all I could pick up outside of a very powerful being was calmness, so I give both kudos in this department, but still Dieter won me here.
Also it was easy to tell from Dieter's writing just how much damage he was taking, so even without a health bar I could tell he was getting beat up.
As far as sportsmanship go, I will give both kudo's here due to taking blows in reasonable ways and blocking them with what they had at their disposal. On this category they both win, but ultimately I have to make a choice for the whole section no? Well then... [******Neutral******] Raid Winner: ******Dark******
